Just to make sure we're in the same reality here: The US government is on the verge of being overthrown by a violent fascist insurrection that promises to round up at least ten million people in concentration camps, perpetrate medical atrocities on women and girls across the country, outlaw the mere existence of LGBTQ people, end the concept of representative democracy, and place every aspect of government under the control of Taliban-like religious extremists.
Here are the leaders of tonight's "United For #Israel" rally at #Columbia.
None are Israelis, or Jews. All 3 are Christian nationalist insurrectionists who are actively trying to overthrow the US government. They incite anti-Jewish hatred and violence, because they believe it signals the "End Times," when Jews will either accept Jesus as their savior or be struck down by God.
It's sickening to think that Jews will show up to support these antisemitic scumbags.
"Yes, Americans lived in a prosperous democracy. But they threw it away. They voluntarily elected a brutal fascist regime that rounded up 10 million Latino people in concentration camps. They banned lifesaving medical care for pregnant women, nationwide, and subjected many of those women to lethal atrocities."
"Why? Because @thegardendude made folks afraid that they might lose their cute dance videos."
What actually happened, in reality, was that Congress passed a bill that requires an enemy foreign government to sell its stake in #TikTok. And Biden signed it.
Whatever the hell you think you're going to accomplish by electing Trump, you're not going to accomplish it.
You're saying that, if Netanyahu defies Biden's orders to stand down, and instead massacres innocent civilians in Rafah, then Arab-American voters will help elect Netanyahu's closest international ally. A man who urges Netanyahu to bomb the shit out of Gaza and "finish the problem."
I should add: I now see that my admin has, in fact, been thoughtfully soliciting input from users regarding whether to federate with Threads. And it seems that their considerations are related not to ethics, but to "technical and moderation concerns."
I don't yet understand the technical points here (e.g. "suspend" vs. "limit"), but I'd encourage anyone considering mas.to to review my admin's stance.
Well, I'm only beginning to dip my toe into the issues here, but... my admin spends a lot of their own time and money running my instance, and they don't even charge me for using it. I choose to make donations, but they don't require or even know that I do. So, from their perspective, my account is nothing but a burden for them.
That being the case, I don't think they really owe me a vote on how they handle threads. Of course I'm free to migrate if I want.
Wow, hey, I totally missed this! But... I don't seem to be able to follow @barackobama@threads.net. Is that because he didn't opt in to sharing his posts with the Fediverse? Or is it because my server is located outside of the US?
The two possible winners of every US election are the Democratic Party, which demands compliance with international law and air drops aid to #Gaza, and the Republican Party, whose policy on Palestinians is "we should kill them all."
You just said that you don't give a shit.
That is, in my opinion, an extremely offensive thing to say to human beings who are desperately clinging to their lives.
It wasn't just him. It was the whole Republican Party. Here's the official Arizona GOP Twitter account, urging people to fight, and if necessary die, to overthrow the US government on January 6, 2021.
Yes, more low blows are coming. But it does matter, because we don't have a functioning free press.
The news story is not "but her emails" or "but his memory." The story is that a DOJ special counsel abused the power of his office, and broke the law, to turn his official report into a partisan smear.
The GOP will continue to flood the zone with bullshit. If the press continues to collect and amplify that bullshit, our democracy has no hope of survival.
I recently read about the London synagogue that was attacked by this hateful mob.
The 75-year-old mother of one of the congregation's members was kidnapped by Hamas on October 7. She's a daughter of Holocaust survivors. She had learned Arabic, and then taught it to others, in order to get along better with their neighbors in Gaza.
Despite the congregation's pain, their rabbi continues to stress empathizing with Gazans.
Here's a non-paywalled, archived version of The Telegraph's article.
"In one particularly disturbing clip, male demonstrators were seen shouting 'Khayber Khayber ya yaud jadish al Mohammed sauf yaud' through a megaphone.
"The anti-Semitic chant, which references a seventh-century battle in which Jewish people were massacred by a Muslim army, translates as: 'Khaybar Khaybar, O Jews, Muhammad’s army will return.'"
Josh Paul worked in the same State Dept. office throughout the international catastrophe of Trump's presidency. He was there for the "peace plan" written by Jared Kushner (a failed mobster from New Jersey with no diplomatic experience), which was such an obscene insult to Palestinians that it may have ruined the US' ability to broker Mideast peace forever.
Did he resign then? No. He waited to flounce off until he could attack Biden.
I'm getting a little sick of HuffPo's relentless pseudojournalism.
Josh Paul led one of 9 offices in one of 3 bureaus overseen by one of 6 undersecretaries at State. He was a mid-level communications officer. His job was to write press releases. Is his inability to "shift policy" really worthy of a whole article?
Biden is pressuring Israel to abide by international law. He got them to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza. He's doing his goddamned job.
