My wife and I were talking about creating our own holidays, as a queer interracial couple. I take issue with my cultural traditions (lunar new year and Christmas) as I’m deprogramming evangelical Chinese Christianity from my life. So I decided that for lunar new year every year we will have a Pineapple Festival.
I will make pineapple tarts, then tepache, then pollo en chicha.
I also really enjoy a recent thing I’ve been seeing of famous ramen restaurants in Japan doing co-branded instant ramen. Probably made by one of these producers but tweaked to taste just like the ramen they’re known for. They tend to be a bit harder to buy but I always enjoy it when friends bring them for me from Japan or Singapore
Reddit comment with a good list of instant ramen that surpasses the average quality of regular ramen (stuff that comes quite close to restaurant ramen), and where to buy them online
I firmly believe most of these products are better than the expensive and not great ramen restaurants in cities without a thriving ‘fancy ramen’ scene
@LeafyEricScott i love madhur jaffrey, but curry leaves are prevalent more across south indian cooking, which i personally prefer (especially chettinad and kongunadu style food)
Lemongrass and pandan chicken is a thing Lemongrass and pandan tea Lemongrass in a grilled fish Pandan wrapping a whole chicken or fish then grilled whole
I love turmeric rice. Not only is it delicious it is also beautiful
Turmeric fried chicken is also a thing. And if you have a whole turmeric, try burying it in the soil and waiting for turmeric leaves to grow and then using them to make any type of curry. It has a delicious fragrance you can’t get in anything store bought
@greycat if you ever get whole turmeric, bury it in pot of soil and wait until they grow leaves too. Use turmeric leaves alongside curry leaves. Delicious
