british / irish crisps are a little better for me, the flavors are more to my taste. much more savory flavors.

i think i just objective to vinegar as a core flavor. also why i can't do hot sauce in America.

when i go to 'non-ethnic' grocery stores, i am rarely interested in the snacks there beyond 1-2 things. all the flavors are wrong to me. salt and vinegar? extremely sour potato chips? no thanks.

I also get a rice cracker flavored with soy sauce, and topped with cheese. Anything with soy sauce and rice is a core base flavor for me

There's a Japanese potato chip made with soy sauce and cheese, and this is why I like culturally relevant snacks. I love that shit.

@farah it's a very south indian-like curry soup with more fragrant southeast asian spices and body (usually made with like fermented shrimp with sambal on top)

Highlight of my day was going to the tofu factory (yes!!) to get 3 types of tofu that I can’t get in a grocery store, AND they even had tofufa 豆腐花 (tofu pudding).

@sindarina I think you’ll like this story. Recently I was complaining that Mila had to go to the vet coz she strained herself too much from running up and down, like she didn’t know how old she was. Sabrena said sounds like you. Hehe

A few good things:

1. Had a coffee date with my wife! After 8+ years I’m still unreasonably excited to go on coffee dates with her.
2. Had a delicious claypot rice meal at Bow Hon in SF Chinatown
3. Spoke Teochew / Chiu Chow to a few aunties in Chinatown
4. Nobody laughed at my Cantonese today
5. Had a beautiful walk around some local parks with friends. Some days I’m really mad at this city, other days it’s hard to be mad at it
6. Remembered to send my mom money for Mothers Day (Chinese gift giving be like that. Just money. Everything else is nonsensical)
7. Got delicious cherries from the farmers’ market
8. Developed 5 rolls of film, scanned 1

A few weeks ago I did not have time or headspace for even one of the above.

I’m thankful. Still stressed, but thankful.
