My grandmother passed away in April and her beloved cat is up for adoption in Novato.
Abby is kind of a one-person cat from what we've seen. She adored Grandma but had no interest in the rest of us. I think she would be perfect for someone who lives alone and wants a dedicated companion but doesn't have other pets or a lot of people coming in or out (especially kids).
Abby is 6 years old. Please feel free to share the listing. I really want her to find a new home.

@kingrat @seanddotmedotuk I love regional accents. I just wish we Californians had a more interesting one.

Im watching how to get to heaven from Belfast and I need to know if their accents are real or exaggerated. @seanddotmedotuk have you seen it?
Listening to the main women say “how” is like hearing an Australian say “no.” I can’t even begin to replicate the vowel sounds.

Going to Mexico on Saturday! My friend trip turned into a solo trip but I’m very comfortable solo in Mexico, just a little sad to not have her.
Total spend on accommodation for a week: $200 USD. Less than $30/day.
three buses to get in between cities: $110 USD. (Two 3-hour trips and a 5-hour trip). Less than $10/hour, not bad. Interstate buses in Mexico tend to be nice and comfy too compared to other forms of transit.
We’re not going to talk about how much the plane tickets cost.
One of the hotels has a kitchenette so I’ll cook some/buy fresh produce so that will save some.
Now just have to pay for eating out and some excursions. I’m excited to see new places in Mexico.

@kimlockhartga my goal is one day to go to every one of the Mexican states. I’ve been to more than half and I’m adding two on this trip!

@kingrat I’ve never solo traveled in a country where I didn’t know the language and I think that would definitely be a lot harder.
To be honest, I don’t travel much at all in countries where I don’t know the language. You can get pretty far with Spanish and English. Morocco and India are my exceptions (some parts of India everyone knows English of course but some… less so)

Second time in two years: I had a friend trip planned and the friend canceled (last time it was because her mom died and this time she lost her job and can barely pay the rent so can't travel)
It's obviously not personal but I think I will only plan solo trips from now on :(
Now pivoting to making this one a solo trip. I'm changing it to be 7 nights instead of nine and doing two Mexican states instead of three. Glad I'm totally comfortable traveling in Mexico by myself but bummed all the same, for me and my friend.

@kingrat when you're not near the coast, it's a lot easier but this is still very inexpensive.

Everybody be very impressed: I'm going to a few places near Mexico City this summer, with a Salvadorean friend who lives in Mexico. She's very frugal, and probably needs to be, so we found very cheap places to stay (but read all reviews very carefully for cleanliness).
Ten days, nine nights and we're spending a total of $365 including taxes.
Less than $190 per person!

@kingrat I don’t fancy his chances of making it another 7 months but maybe that’s wishful thinking.

I need brainstorming on two culinary matters:
1. How can I cook spinach that is almost at its lifespan in the most delicious and flavorful (but not difficult) way possible?
2. I eat meat but I don't tend to cook it at home, and don't like cooking in general. But I LOVE barbecue sauce. What, besides potatoes, would be easy to make and coverable in barbecue sauce?

I finally figured out the name of one of my all-time favorite books of my childhood and got SUPER excited to reread it and... it's out of print and I can't find it anywhere :(
If anyone has a copy of One Hundred and Eight Bells, please let me know.

You’d think people would think twice about driving DONNER PASS of all places during a blizzard but I guess we don’t learn from history.

@kingrat I really don’t understand some people’s choices.
Meanwhile I was prepared to clean my carpets and am thinking about this being an excuse to wait until it’s not possible for anyone to track mud in.
