Today a student started his writing with “once upon a time, there was a world of destruction,” and I think that is an amazing opening sentence

Today I worked with a third grader on multiplication. I told him that zero was an easy one to remember because it made all other numbers turn to zero. 4 x 0? Zero. A million times zero? Zero. I said, "Zero is a bully that way."

He said, "But in addition, zero never gets anywhere. It doesn't change a number at all. I think that's how it became evil; the wretched origin of zero." (yes, he really said that)

I said, "That sounds like a great story to write.

His eyes LIT UP and he said, "Please can I write that story?" When I agreed, he said "THIS is why I LOVE going to Bronwyn!"

The story is barely started but includes the lines:

“Zilch had a wretched soul because nobody wants to be zilch”

(That was because it doesn’t change the number in addition)

"But one day he discovered ’times’ and what it can do” (change all the other numbers to zero)

And then zilch laughs an evil laugh.

As I am passing out the red cards for people to know their rights against ICE, a trans friend asked if I knew of anyone making similar cards for trans and gender non conforming people to know their rights.

Microsoft office 365 is increasing their yearly cost from $70 to $100 and I hardly use it anymore.

The Google says you can use a free version by signing in online, is that true? Like I said, I hardly ever use it anymore but I have lots of old docs I might still need to access.

I have given up on recycling.

I have told my neighbors (both the dog poop neighbor and the will you take my dog for free neighbor) over and over and over that you can't put styrofoam, plastic wrap, or plastic bags in the recycling.

I have printed out the chart of what goes where.

I have told them verbally.

I have written notes and taped them on the shared bins.

When I told them verbally they thanked me and said they wouldn't do it anymore, and were very nice about it.

Literally nothing has changed. 3/4 of our shared recycling bins are non-recyclables. Just things these people *want to* be recyclable. I hope they sort it or else we're ruining the entire truck of recycling.

Why am I the only adult in this four-plex? Seriously.

Does anyone local know if #ACTransit buses let you pay with cash still or if you have to have a clipper card?

If you’re in the east bay and have a pet, I hope you never never need them but OakVet is excellent. Really good care and the advantage of having a specialty hospital attached to the ER so all of Zora’s care was seamless.

Also the labs they did were analyzed at UC Davis, my alma mater and the best vet school in the country. (At least it was in the 90s)

@skinnylatte this is excellent and timely information because my niece and nephew are visiting next Friday and they love dim sum. Also I can introduce them to taking public transportation to get there.

I’ll tell you guys one thing: I’m going to try not to ever complain about the wait at an emergency vet again because what’s worse is when your dog is so sick that that don’t make you wait but let you cut in front of everyone.
