Today I saw a little kid go to a Chinese bakery with a printout. It looked like it was a ‘collect all the stamps’ exercise from his Chinese language class in San Francisco, that got him to visit all the Chinatown businesses and talk to them about something (in Mandarin or Cantonese).

Fun!

He also left with a giant Chinese style cheesecake, which I also love (Yummy Bakery, on Jackson)

@sashin they don’t have many Mangalore restaurants abroad. I’m a fan of the banana buns, bondas, banana halwa. Also all of the Mangalore seafood. I guess I could try to make some of it, but they have an incredibly rich culinary scene that would take me years to try to match.

@kkarhan india feels more like home for me, in some ways.

When it’s reasonably safe for me to leave again, and to take a few months off life some day, I will return to India and pick up the life I left behind there. Still so much to see, do, eat, there. I miss it quite terribly. Maybe more than I miss Singapore.

Sometimes I randomly think of how I feel like I’ve traveled all over India and eaten super well in every state / region; but the place I am desperate to return to for food is probably Mangalore. It just checks *all* of my food boxes. Sadly can’t easily get that food outside of Mangalore.

@sasutina13 they do still come in cans for motion picture film.

For photo film bulk rolls; they just come in a bundle of a dark bag.

It’s going to take a while to process all of these (I have color, black and white, slide film, AND motion picture film to process)… I have the chemicals for all of them, but will need to do some planning to get the most from the different chemicals. :/

Now that it’s so clear and bright it feels like the sun is shooting rays into my eyeballs (I’m from the equator), I feel much, much better. That’s before the real SF summer sets in (foggy and gloomy)

There’s something I find nourishing about my habit of going to random Chinatown restaurants for lunch by myself, listening to different people talk, talking to random strangers, using my other languages, and eating food that speaks to my soul. I appreciate it so much and it helps me feel less untethered, as an immigrant

@migurski oh yeah that’s an all over the world Chinatown conflict thing. I’m interested to know how it looks on a person to person basis. Don’t have the data points yet but will find out.
