@damon @aral I wonder if the Fediverse shouldn’t get its own search engine. Like just index links that humans somewhere posted as public. In addition to obvious pre-selected sites like Wikipedia , StackOverflow, archive.org or blogs that are somehow guaranteed to be from humans. I think I’d be happy with an “essentials” search engine. I can always fall back to traditional engines for more results.

I am sure @dansup can build this in a week, right .

@aral What I find most shocking is the budget for FireFox being in the billions. I understand it’s a huge codebase etc but still.

Maybe the way to go is just to maintain a NoAdsFox fork which is just FireFox with better defaults. Guess it already exists ?

How to chose a browser in 2023:

- Chrome, belongs to the largest advertising company

- Firefox, gets most of its income from making Google (the search engine of the largest advertising company) the default choice

- Safari, could afford to be different but “privacy champion” Apple gets about 15 billion per year for the ad company’s search engine to be the default

@Zekovski @f4grx Le principe est merveilleux et rassurant à long terme mais en pratique par exemple les apps iOS / Android de Mastodon sont très nombreuses et bien avancées mais ne vont pas fonctionner (sans modif) avec Firefish ou autre. On conserverait son réseau mais pas ses outils non ?

@Zekovski @f4grx @apps Ah bien ! J’espère que ça va se propager comme principe. Je préférerais d’ailleurs avoir tout dans la même app, comme des onglets avec des interfaces qui s’adaptent pour de la photo ou du texte selon la direction du réseau actif.

@MonaApp One thing that would improve a lot daily life would be to set a reply’s language automatically.

Every time I reply to a message in Portuguese , the post language goes to English by default. Of course this can also be solved by doing it like @tootapp (just setting the language based on the keyboard language used to type the first word).

@MonaApp My default language is English but I will still want to write / reply in several other languages and it could be made easier.

@mastohost I can’t change the subdomain to the root domain because there’s an other site on lema.org so I need to use a subdomain.

I am trying to do what he does there (allow sharing another domain , in my case just the root domain, to point to my user). Yes I will e-mail.

@Sburlot @mastohost my nginx server returns the right thing (I believe) but the masto.host server gets a 503 trying to get data

@mastohost thx ! at my small scale (personal instance + 4 home bots) I manage it by simply validating follow requests but I wish there was an easy option to just filter out the same bad stuff as “average” people would do.

@mastohost I haven’t been able to find this info on the site: is there a way to have federation / defederation automatically mirror a model instance ? (Eg. defederate automations any instance my chosen “model” defederates)?
