So installed prosody on my small personal instance and finally run my own #XMPP server. This was surprisingly simple and seems pretty lightweight . Well I don’t know if I did it right 😅 but it seems to work.

Next up I plan to migrate my personal mastodon instance (currently on Masto.host) to #snac . No idea how it’s going to go though.

Anyone here did this particular migration ? I want to change my Fediverse account to be santi@go.lema.org because it’s kinda cool.

It would make more sense to use goto social with that subdomain but I like snac !

I remember a time when autocorrect was very helpful to learn languages. Like I’d mistakenly type in a French word and it’d say “no this does not exist but there’s this one which is proper English”.

Strangely (or not) there's a #Gemini client for the old Amiga (AmiGemini) but not for Mac OS Classic (?)

Thankfully the #smolnet proxy at http://portal.mozz.us also works with insecure http. So here I am on the GeminiSpace from a Mac Mini running Mac OS 9 in Internet Explorer 5. I tried Netscape but there's an issue with new lines on Antenna and other capsules.

Using custom fonts & colors it's visually pleasant on 1280x1024 screen and quite snappy.

Like a thing only for pre-authorized friends. A system commercial entities would avoid because plain text (or .gmi) cannot do “enough” and mandatory pre—approval makes no sense for commerce.

Sticking pre-approval on top of existing e-mail is not the way. It has to be fully separate.

@cadusilva I wonder what’s the deal with .art domains ? Are artists supposed to be all rich ? Well some definitely are but this is so arbitrary.

Now I wonder if they’ll try to do the same with my Lema.org domain once it expires in 6 years. I know it cost a fortune to buy (4 letters) but renewal shouldn’t be different from other domains.

Since my ex google domains were moved to exacthosting the domain prices went up absurdly. My lema.org domain was paid in advance for a decade so I can wait six years before I have to pay. But anin.art now cost 128 USD to renew :-/ I can't risk losing it so I paid but how can it be so expensive ? I paid 27 USD to renew it a week ago and now I see it was refunded and I have to pay 128 USD to actually renew it. WTH.

I see it as part of the colonized mindset. We eat wheat bread because Europeans did but that’s not what the ground produces here.
