Yup, that's the standard setup for Dutch roundabouts, and there's a LOT of them. Red surface means bicycles have priority, plus the road markings telling cars to yield before crossing it and bicycles to yield to other bicycles before entering it.

It's all planned out before street infrastructure is built, and is completely mandatory. New neighborhoods are required to have paved bike and foot paths going through them, rather than being allowed to block off access.

And yikes - it really did wipe out most of the town. Looks like it went down the mountain and filled up the valley, flowing up and down it before it ran out of energy.

Looks like everything above the drawn orange line was wiped out, aside from homes in the lower right area which are on a steep hillside.

Looks like her preferred hiking gear was cute form-fitting gym clothes. Zero sun protection, and a small bottle of water from a trendy brand that looks good on camera. Local temperatures from the day she went missing appear to have been upwards of 100F, and she started her hike near noon.

And regardless of anyone's feelings about Jesus, he doesn't qualify as a safety hiking buddy 😑

That part stood out to me too. They really thought they could just vote for a little bit of hatred and fascism, and that it would all stay within their perceived boundaries of decency.

Biden's initial 2nd term candidacy and Harris' subsequent mangled candidacy speak to serious problems in the Democratic Party. As does their attitude toward materially supporting Israel's genocide of Palestinians, despite massive disapproval from voters.

Being funded by corporations has caused the Democratic Party to see actual voters as merely something to be managed and manipulated, rather than respected and ultimately obeyed. And I've seen zero indications of change regarding those attitudes, but rather accusations of racism and misogyny against democrats who opted out of voting, and more pandering to the extreme right in the name of centrism.

The Democratic Party (and our American democracy) is in dire need of improvement and reform, but is currently led by people who would personally be financially and professionally harmed by reform. They need to be replaced via election primaries, and it's highly relevant to discuss the examples which demonstrate that need.

The Biden administration supplied Israel with everything it needed to bomb Gaza into oblivion. Massive amounts of civilians were being killed even prior to the election, and documents repeatedly demonstrated that American bombs kept being sent even when the Biden administration was (publicly) scolding Bibi for his weekly episode of Definitely Going Too Far This Time. Harris refused to denounce any of that or give any indication that she would deviate from the Democratic Party in supporting Israel unconditionally.

And while Trump was always going to be far worse, there were also always going to be democrats who couldn't bring themselves to vote for the not-as-bad party while it was providing that support for genocide. It's human nature, not logic, and abusing people for it is perverse and not constructive.

I'm confused. How are democrats opposed to genocide supposed to vote for democrats over republicans in a manner which sends a signal of strong rejection of supporting genocide?

The choices were literally genocide materially supported by one party or genocide materially supported by the other party. Very vocal objections were systematically ignored by the Democratic Party and are still being downplayed and vilified to this day.

Thus simply voting democrat is not enough. We need to get the right democrats into power who explicitly reject the support of genocide and will engage in systemic democratic reforms. Otherwise we keep circling back to the same situation over and over again: neither party needs to represent voters' interests as long as they feel confident enough that we'll think they're not-as-bad-as the other party.

They're also going into a fairly sharp bend immediately after the Ram passed. If that driver wasn't paying attention for a moment, continuing to drive straight would have caused him to quickly drift into the left lane.

And the attempted pass by the Tesla started off pretty aggressively, both regarding acceleration and lack of clearance. While the Ram was definitely at fault, the accident would have been avoided with a more defensive approach from the Tesla driver.

As the article describes, it's not just a Trump problem and CBS' current streak of self-censorship started under Biden. Colbert's been chafing at the bit regarding Israel as well ... he's simply not allowed to mention it, and settles for subtle pro-Palestinian content when the rare opportunity comes along.

Severe lactose intolerance has had a similar impact for me. Fortunately I can still drink coffee with lactose-free cream, or eat some lactose-free greek yogurt. But most chocolates, baked goods (including breads), cream sauces, etc are out.

Did buy an awesome Vietnamese cookbook recently though, and that's been great for avoiding both dairy and ultraprocessed foods 🤗

His intentions with the tariffs and everything else is to dismantle the federal government and weaken the US as much as possible.

The tariffs will drive up food prices, as could dumping California's reservoirs prior to the growing season. The misdirection is occurring in assigning his actions to bumbling stupidity instead of malice.

There's video and other eyewitnesses saying the (tower) lines were arcing, which sparked the fire.

One person who took the video isn't publicly "releasing" it, pending investigation, but the network that posted the article has seen it.
