Dr. Eric J. Fielding, PhD (ericfielding@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 12-Jan-2025 03:17:20 JST Dr. Eric J. Fielding, PhD @ai6yr Southern California Edison denies that their equipment started the Eaton Fire. They say that their transmission lines through the area were de-energized. It could still have started in the vegetation beneath the power lines and towers.

Dr. Eric J. Fielding, PhD (ericfielding@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 12-Jan-2025 03:19:23 JST Dr. Eric J. Fielding, PhD @ai6yr The transmission towers in Eaton Canyon are the huge high-voltage lines, nothing like the small and very old power lines that probably caused the Camp Fire in 2018.

There's video and other eyewitnesses saying the (tower) lines were arcing, which sparked the fire. One person who took the video isn't publicly "releasing" it, pending investigation, but the network that posted the article has seen it.

I checked my pics and one had the streetlight on. @ai6yr
