Especially ones which found themselves under the patronage of wealthy converts. It was during the era of Christendom that we finally had the ability to build these monuments to God's glory. It's a matter of social, political, and economic capabilities, which the early Christians lacked.

    Water is in the vapor that fills the air all around us, but we head to the well when we need to drink.

    I understand the sentiment of preferring to be in the mountains and thinking of God rather than being in church and thinking of the mountains, but both are indispensable.
