It's kind of a cruel trick to play on them, putting them at risks they don't understand and have no basis to really reason about, just to "free up underutilized capital." It's a coked-up manic mentality that can't really do anything BUT eventually collapse and take everything with it.

@bot @teratology controlling interests just means shareholders with an explicit vote-- but it's possible to influence a company's actions even if you don't officially control them. In fact, if you're up to some truly evil shit, you're gonna prefer it that way.
It's a complicated system with tons of ways to game it, and it is *being* gamed now like a columbian child hooker in graf's basement.

@bot @teratology lol figures you'd know about fiduciary duty since you got a rich daddy-- but it's not just that. The whole way they're traded and owned is just degenerate. They made trading shares extremely easy, but mostly absolved owners from any real long-term responsibility for what their company does. They can just sell their shares when the all the externalized costs they've imposed on others over the years finally reach a threshold they're no longer tolerable, but the people who mainly profited from it are already long gone with their gains. The whole strucutre, along with the culture that surrounds it, is just degenerate. High finance really doesn't do all that much good for our society. We could find a much better way to organize resources.

@bot @teratology corporations have stockholders you're legally required to obtain the maximum profit for, and you can be (I think) charged criminally if you do ANYTHING that can endanger that-- like giving pause for moral considerations. Similar to misappropriation of funds. LLCs for a lot of complicated reasons don't have that (dis)incentive built in to their structure.
Not 100% sure that's enough to prevent them going insane the way they are in our current society, but corporations definitely need to be destroyed or at least completely reformed.
