@jwildeboer@social.wildeboer.net the robber barons think they're taking over and if they are that isn't good either but the question is whether they can actually control Trump. Not to say Trump is going to do anything close to similar but big money also thought they'd be able to control Hitler.
@pfefferle@mastodon.social as far as I understand one temporary caveat is that federated Flipboard accounts are in closed beta and not yet available for everyone but I guess eventually will be. Will connecting a Mastodon account in the Flipboard app let you comment over ActivityPub in app?
@shibao@misskey.bubbletea.dev I'm sure they want to do it eventually but these are not designed for everyday users, it's basically just a devkit for now.
@gutocarvalho@bolha.us I read an Associated Press article that said some of the accounts that have vanished from Twitter "were prominent supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro". Do you know who these were, what kind of stuff were they posting and were they like politicians or what exactly does "prominent supporters" mean?
@BeAware@social.beaware.live yeah it is a good step forward and it seems like it's in already. I'm guessing they're not visible without logging in since I could not see it on the web interface myself though.
@BeAware@social.beaware.live@ricard@ricard.social on the bright side it seems to me like the number of accounts that have it enabled has grown well. Entirely anecdotal but I just seem to find more journalists and others to follow from there than ever.
I do remain just as sceptical about their intentions unless this feature becomes popular enough for them to think twice before killing it at some point.
@BeAware@social.beaware.live the total number of users was a bit over 4000 the last time I checked (the number of followers the bridge bot has on BlueSky).
@BeAware@social.beaware.live Threads only pushes to the fediverse and doesn't take anything in right now so there is nothing to opt-in to for us currently. It's true they might not start asking even when this becomes bidirectional but not sure. I hope they won't make it opt-in tbh.
But when it comes to how it works now I don't see the difference between Threads and this Bluesky bridge. Just like you can run into posts from Threads without having followed any Threads account you can still run into posts from Bluesky here despite not having opted in to the Bridgy fed bridge.
@BeAware@social.beaware.live well to be fair many people might be shouting for threads to be opt-in if Meta had not chosen to make it so anyway and also the anti-threads energy was channeled more into demands of a complete fediblock
@tokyo_0@mas.to it seems like the quote post controls are probably something they've been coordinating with Mastodon, actually. I think it was @tchambers@indieweb.social I saw say first that a very similar feature is coming for Mastodon and having followed the quote post discussions in the issue queues for Mastodon a bit I know these kinds of controls were extensively discussed there as a requirement for adding QPs in the past.
@mackuba@martianbase.net what's your point? guessing this isn't that recent and I'm not sure 30% was a particularly unrealistic prediction considering most startups fail and we've already seen multiple twitter replacements fail too.
Good on Bluesky not having run out of money yet but I certainly don't think they've yet really found a good way to monetize or a big enough userbase so the clock is absolutely still ticking on that VC money requiring them to put up or shut it.
@mackuba@martianbase.net also, I'm sure you know @evan@cosocial.ca has a non-threads fediverse account too even though he happened to post that message to threads so there is no need to ping him on threads only.
@darnell@one.darnell.one not a great look if you don't want to criticize your allies I guess but I'd argue sweeping all their problems under the rug is not a great look either
That said, I think I might actually prefer it that way because it is another reason for people to come to this side of the fediverse instead of using Threads.
@FinchHaven@sfba.social@aral@mastodon.ar.al what on earth makes you say they are raking in shit tons of money? That doesn't sound too likely for a team with the grand total of two full-time deveopers (to be increased to three now) so do you have something to back that with?
@tokyo_0@mas.to I think as long as they are not federating with anything besides themselves (including a small number of extremely limited and tiny community-run services) the answer is easily no.
@BeAware@social.beaware.live what kind of negativity are you seeing and is there much of it? I've seen a weird comment by someone acting like threads is some exclusive club, disinterest because of the limited interaction (for now) and (legitimate) concerns about the inability to limit who can reply but being only on this side of the fediverse my exposure has obviously been limited since I only see posts from those who have actually enabled it.
