Sam (samohtmas@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 02-Jan-2025 05:38:59 JST Sam #COVID seems NOT to easily infect via the eyes.
#Flu (#H5N1 #H3N3) is not so constrained. This is very much worth considering as we rapidly approach an H5N1 and/or H3N3 Flu pandemic.
Note as well that COVID does not easily transmit by contact. Flu does! So sanitation and proper sanitary hygiene return as important protections. These apply for H1N1 that is circulating now as well.

Not intending this as a competition. Good on you.
For me, I have been exceedingly concerned and wary about H5N1 since back before 2000 when it turned up killing birds in huge numbers.
People (experts included) seem to have forgotten that flu transmits through birds flying south from the arctic - defecating as they go.
Farm animals, swine, fowl, and cows can all be mixing reservoirs for mutation ... plus workers.
Capitalism is the worst factor.

Now consider. We are in a wave of H1N1 flu. Flu very easily reassorts, recombines, and mutates.
Simultaneous infection of dairy workers exposed to H5N1 and also contracting H1N1 is one way of driving the creation of a human transmissive and highly lethal form of H5N1.

Everyone gets a seat at #Harris table.
Well, unless you are Palestinian. In that case, she will help Nutandyahoo blow up your table and kill you and your entire family. The joys of #genocide

Sam (samohtmas@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 17-Aug-2024 03:32:57 JST Sam Way way late, though at least they are reporting. Interesting notes:
Pressure on FDA/CDC about why the new vaccines are not available.
Suggestion that the delay is because FDA ordered "tweaks" to the vaccines to better match the current strains. !! {With no advisory panel involvement!, and no public visibility!}
CNN (and their experts) are still deaf, dumb and blind to the pandemic dynamics, and to the failures of CDC and FDA by not gathering and reporting data.

Sam (samohtmas@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 16-Mar-2024 15:46:17 JST Sam Mat you are completely correct.
CDC downgraded SARS-CoV-2 from level 5 (Polio like hazard) to level 2 (Flu like) in direct contradiction of the science, apparently in order to support the 'get people back to work' herd immunity and 'pretend it is over' approaches will solve it.
They won't.
What is clear is that the experts have abandoned their professional responsibilities and ethics.
We are on our own to protect ourselves.
Welcome to the beginning of new Dark Age.

The percentage is now known to be about 20 to 25% of those infected who go on to have long #COVID - for each infection.
In addition there is about a 13% chance of developing an auto immune disease and for each existing autoimmune disease that is in remission there is a 13 to 14% chance of activating that disease.
Since people with autoimmune diseases tend to have many this is a grave risk.

Sam (samohtmas@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 03-Feb-2024 07:17:09 JST Sam @rchusid #COVID At less than 70% at two months, the vaccine is no longer effective at protection. It must be updated.
It is better than nothing. And it will still reduce severe disease and death. But do NOT reply on it for protection with this low of an effectiveness (54%). Doing so will casue you to contract COVID and all the harms of long COVID, immune damage and accelerated aging.
CDC and FDA need to do vastly better. They are currently failing miserably. Made more so by MAGATs.

Variants are constantly developing. And hybrids. That is what this virus does - mutate and hybridize. To be far enough different to be a problem takes many months - usually. No guarantees.
It would be ridiculous to do monthly vaccination. But that is just a measure about how inadequate this vaccine is now - six months since it was released.
We need new vaccines more frequently to keep up with the virus. And to be over 90% effective.

Sam (samohtmas@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 02-Feb-2024 07:32:34 JST Sam @HistoPol @peterbutler @c_merriweather @erictopol #COVID You asked wha tthe optimal time is for the next booster?
Based on the 54% effectiveness reported for JN.1 at 2 months, a shot a month should about do it, provided FDA and CDC would allow it.
The current vaccine is no longer effective for personal protection, other than against severe disease and death. And that won't last 6 months either. More likely 3.
It is essential to take other measures to protect yourself ( masks and isolation).

Sam (samohtmas@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 24-Jan-2024 16:18:44 JST Sam COVID affects ALL ages. Serious short term disease and death primarily affect those over age 50.
However, all ages are impacted by long COVID, autoimmune disease, clotting. organ damage, immune destruction, and hyper accelerated aging.
Transmission occurs at all ages, impacting the elderly and those with autoimmune diseases or issues.
Treating it as harmless or like the flu for those under 50 is flipping stupid, arrogant, and ignorant.
