If you’re worried about Covid, come to Ireland. Here, Covid starts at 50. That’s why we don’t provide boosters to anyone under that age.

@catarinac I feel it has something to do with the particular orientation of the stars…
@aral that's actually not too bad, I think in other places it starts at 60 :ablobsmile: must be the food or something
@achisto What a shit hand of poker this is turning out to be :)
@aral I raise you Germany, where getting a booster is recommend from 60 upwards and many doctors won't provide younger people with boosters even though it's not forbidden.
@sid77 Yeah, I think the thing to do is possibly to just go in and talk to them. When booking online there’s a form you have to fill to declare to meet the government requirements for the booster.
@aral I got mine without issues and I’m still under 50. Talk to a pharmacist, they’ll give you one 👍
@achisto @aral my parents live in Germany, are in their late 60s with a bunch of additional health issues, and both their GPs told them not to bother with boosters.
@realn2s @elmyra That’s the thing: you can’t even pay to get it here if you wanted to (not that you should have to).
@elmyra @aral
So much better 🤬
Here in Germany it's AFAIK 60
(so you still win)
Depending on your doctor and a possible willingness to pay yourself you can get the shit even if you are younger
@aral oh oops I stand corrected, it's 65 now apparently.
@aral I'll see your 5 0 and raise you 75 the UK.
@joopdelfijn @samohTmaS Assume I’m not a dimwit and tell me which you think it is.
@samohTmaS @aral I think (hope) Aral was being sarcastic...
COVID affects ALL ages. Serious short term disease and death primarily affect those over age 50.
However, all ages are impacted by long COVID, autoimmune disease, clotting. organ damage, immune destruction, and hyper accelerated aging.
Transmission occurs at all ages, impacting the elderly and those with autoimmune diseases or issues.
Treating it as harmless or like the flu for those under 50 is flipping stupid, arrogant, and ignorant.
@clacke Nope.
@aral Is there at least the option to pay for it yourself?
I agree that it would make more sense for everyone to be covered, but there are degrees in hell, too.
Here in HK the free program has been cut off to 50+ only, and it's difficult but possible to buy a booster if you can find the right clinic. It's ~200 USD though, and I hear some places in the US can get them for ~100 USD.
