@thatonecalculator@lauren I pulled from the-federation.info and said there may be more. Pretty sure the stats I pulled were active users reported. But nowhere near the number of Mastodon users was the point since Lauren posted from Mastodon.
@lauren Self-reporting stats on the Misskey and Calckey projects indicate 237 users. Could be more since not all servers self-report. So a very small number among >9.5 million Fediverse users.
@HaplogroupNews@paprikapink@lauren Good to know but this is an issue that should be addressed by devs of those projects. What Lauren did is common (Very few people use or consider markdown when posting on social media.)
@oz3mze@Gargron@atomicpoet One problem with that is requiring 501c3 status is cumbersome and not free. Most open-source projects are privately funded by companies using the software or self-funded. In rare cases large foundations may provide funding but then they control dev direction which is not always desirable - and certainly not in the case of the various competing projects in the Fediverse. You can't fund/not fund based on adherence to software terms without entering into legal risks further increasing costs.
@atomicpoet@Gargron What is needed are philanthropists or impact investors who do not expect any financial ROI. In other words, frame funding asks in terms of SROI then apply for philanthropy grants and impact investments (in addition to any donation efforts).
@ryanschultz Given the ineptness of the TW team now, and the shutdown of so many microservices, etc, eventually they will have a backup failure unable to retrieve older deleted tweets. Perhaps run it every 30 days I suppose. I archived my tweets as of November 5, 2022 to the Wayback Machine. Have not posted anything of interest (except promos of NASA posts) other than event notifications and helpful info to get into the Fediverse. (I had locked it down after attempting to reconnect with the followers that TW team forced unfollowed and getting rid of alt-righters I had blocked that the TW team unblocked and forced me to follow more than once.) My reach and engagement in the Fediverse is far higher than it ever was on TW and FB. I attribute this to the design of the Fediverse not allowing corporate control over my user experience as a product of theirs. Here, "Fedizens" control the Fediverse and any org, business, or government engaging are here as guests not overlords. We are a threat to TW et al because we are stronger together.
@ceoln I've read the reasons why some servers defederate qoto and as with any admin, it is their decision based on their criteria and their rules. It's not my list but is a list used by many admins. That does not mean that all admins who reference the list agree with every entry.
My name confuses some so let me tell you a bit about me. I've been around 2.5D and 3D virtual worlds since their inception in the 90's after MUDs and MMOs. Yes Virginia, I remember 300 baud modems connected to the university VAX, working in octal on PDP8's, using BBS, exploring Windows 3.0, and of course ARPANET. It all began for me with the TI994A and a cassette recorder for a hard drive LOL until I graduated to BASIC-A and the PCJr while playing Tracer Sanction. 2.5D worlds still exist today but moving into Cybertown and Blaxxun along with Active Worlds brought me into 3D, I've been there ever since.Professionally, I am an Engineer with a well-rounded background who specializes in Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis. I am also into providing Research and Education services with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. However, I spend a lot of time working to advance technologies for Social 3D Virtual Worlds and Social VR applications with a focus on the user experience
