@tchambers@renchap Yes, would love the ability to have a generic FASP for a global feed service. having a hashtag service, to me, is somewhat equivalent to having a custom feed with 1 source which is the hastag. The challenges really are in the UI: how would a mastodon client, for example, show this a user who wanted to see such a feed? Probably needs to be separate from the current follow model as you don't really want all posts from the custom feed to show up in your timeline.
@BeAware@Sibshops@Flipboard topics are not followable in the fediverse. Some of our users (e.g. publishers and creators) are followable and their magazines. We do offer local news publishers like @SpotlightPA and @PennLivedotcom. The challenge with topics is that they are algorithmic from many non-federated sources so a follow action doesn't make much sense (because the items can change all the time and disappear, re-appear ... it is not follow timeline based). We've had some ideas on how to make it more direct, but not yet ventured down that path. Great question!
If you are attending fediforum I highly recommend watching this interview with Johannes ..... really gives great insight into the motivation behind the "unconfernece"
@youronlyone It's not all users and magazines, only specific ones. I think the ones available are searchable on flipboard.social (search for flipboard.com)
@thisismissem@tchambers@kissane@darius This is probably the largest risk. Even on Flipboard, we regularly disable or otherwise limit hundreds of accounts created daily which have bad actors behind them. A major goal we have to to never allow these accounts to federate to begin with, but it is a cat and mouse game, so IFTAS and AP node admins working together will be crucial to a safe social environment.
