@BeAware @AmericanScream Honestly, I was kind of on Reddit's side on the paid API change. They still have to make money and keep out bots. The mods making their subreddits private was kind of harmful to reddit, in general. So I wasn't at all suprised when admins stepped in.

@BeAware To be fair, there isn't a secret algorithm on bluesky. The algorithms are open and new ones can created by users.

Mastodon's the best, but at least it's sort of a step is the right direction.

@BeAware You are not wrong, I wonder if I should look into moving. I came to mastodon.online from another server because I follow Hank Green and The Onion from threads and like to see content from servers on a lot of people's blacklists like mastodon.cloud. I also want a server with manual or closed sign-ups to keep out the riff-raff.

@BeAware It's probably because of all the people complaining about how "difficult" it is to pick a server or something.

@liztai I imagine for good reason, too. It isn't just like any other corporate social media, it's a face for China. Profit isn't the only thing they are concerned about.

@liztai @justincox I'm guessing it is due to moderation policies, just going by the number of people complaining about being banned or having their comments removed.

@BeAware I remember the last time they had issues. They asked people to move to mastodon.online to help offset the congestion.

Since then they upgraded mastodon.social and closed new signups to mastodon.online for some reason.

@BeAware According to their super-secret discord it is because it is getting 2x the amount of traffic.

@chiefgyk3d I feel like I'm missing something. Both the average and median were mentioned. Should something else be included? Net worth includes debt, too, right?

@flexghost This is kind of a good outcome, at least? I feared the worse.

@molly0xfff Tiktok was also controlling the online space. They got caught suppressing LGBTQ content, or any content they didn't like as well as boosting any message that fits their own agenda. It wasn't an open or fair algorithm.

@evacide It's crazy how people are willingly choosing a platform with authoritarian censorship like rednote as opposed to free ones like Mastodon.

A Chinese company isn't protected by American laws. Only US citizens and companies are. Protection against censorship doesn't go beyond the US borders. It's not censorship unless it is silencing American citizens or companies.
