I'm starting to kick around ideas for a #FASP for social feeds. @evan has suggested one for global hashtags, and the #Fediscovery folks are doing one for search. It feels like "feeds" is a missing & @Flipboard, @surf and @newsmast and others have great feeds in the wild now. And I think, correctly me if I'm wrong @darius that the exact new feed format is being sussed out at the WC3. I think maybe the time is right to consider what a Feeds FASP might be. Whatcha think? https://github.com/mastodon/fediverse_auxiliary_service_provider_specifications
@tchambers We will likely think about it ourselves in some time, but we idk if we will have bandwidth for it in the next 2 quarters. We need to ship something before we can start on the "custom feeds" topic, but it's in our minds
@tchambers@renchap Yes, would love the ability to have a generic FASP for a global feed service. having a hashtag service, to me, is somewhat equivalent to having a custom feed with 1 source which is the hastag. The challenges really are in the UI: how would a mastodon client, for example, show this a user who wanted to see such a feed? Probably needs to be separate from the current follow model as you don't really want all posts from the custom feed to show up in your timeline.
FYI to you both: I think I have a closed, for proof of concept only MVP of a web app of this working today. Am about to test it against indieweb.social to check that it is a functioning FASP and speaks well and securely with that server as a test. If that works will share with you both.
