So who is going to tell Quintessence that I made her gluten free vegan pie and I’m putting it in the oven and she needs to come downstairs and snuggle instead of working on the #hachyderm community website?
Apparently, I accidentally made an account at hachyderm.io lol. I am looking to move instances soon, mastodon.world is great but I'd like a local feed that I can enjoy. So am eyeing writers.exchange or hachyderm.io (as a tech writer I straddle both worlds) Anyone on these instances? How is it like?
Hanging out in #hachydermia on Mastodon feels a lot like Twitter in the early days (I joined in 2007) -- almost entirely tech, lots of cool discussions (and folks like @davew and @dangillmor !). People may not like it because it's very different than Twitter circa 2022...but it's not so different than Twitter circa 2009.
I am making it a lifetime goal of mine to influence Silicon Valley to shift out of a perpetual growth mindset and into a perpetual sustainability mindset.
We cannot afford another generation of limitless growth and mindless inflation in our part of the economy.
Quick temperature check. How is everyone's media experience going? I suspect things will be "slow" on the west coast in the US for the next few hours. Just wondering how the east coast and our friends in the EU are doing?
Happy #Friday! We are testing out the new Digital Ocean media service. Hope everyone is enjoying watching our caches redistribute. Here is my first image we are watching redistribute across the Atlantic.
I am going to turn my stream on today for the first time this week! Come say hello, and lets look at a small live cutover for some backing services for Hachyderm.
Mostly just relaxing, chilling, and vibing on a Friday.
@karrick@edsuom we are rolling out a new way of supporting hachyderm in January — for now we have to keep it “the old way” for tax purposes until the new year! I’m sorry! I know theil is a douchebag nazi.
So I am not going to lie, there has been a few really toxic people show up in my vicinity recently. I have been trying to stay positive, but it has been hard.
I finally have some time to start looking at some of the outstanding items on my todo list. I went through and pulled all the comments out of my ko-fi donations for the month of November.
@nova I guess I don’t know what you’re using them for, I assumed it had something to do with the instance. But they’d be rated for some total write load. For my home instance I have some evos which have been great for lvm cache but I’m not running mastodon on them ?
@disser I hear you. I spend my days working on NVMe and kernel caching for GitHub’s databases. Unfortunately I don’t have that kind of scratch for my little side hustles… so SATA connections and consumer hardware is what we get to play with.
@disser I’m not sure what I’m going to use them for yet — we have a lot of extra bays in the rack — I was considering using them as cold replica of our media data here in the basement but I’m trying to stay away from making any more big production decisions this year — I’m just happy to have them is all
