I am making it a lifetime goal of mine to influence Silicon Valley to shift out of a perpetual growth mindset and into a perpetual sustainability mindset.

We cannot afford another generation of limitless growth and mindless inflation in our part of the economy.

@nova everybody should go about and try to influence whereever the can, not just silicon valley - and if the tech comps. won't go there, we should start getting states/countries to move towards it (and introduce regulations to enforce it)

@nova Gives me warm memories of a friend who cofounded one of the first ISPs (ish) in France in the 80s, meeting a Silicon Valley guy who asked “What’s your burn rate?” The reply being “What do you mean? We’re profitable.”

@nova I love seeing the complaints on HN about how "inefficient" the fediverse is ... and yet when mas.to was down the other day, as if by magic, I could still see posts from its users here! yes, distributed systems may trade efficiency for resiliency, on purpose, and that can be a great thing.

@nova I like Kate Raworth's Doughnut Economics model - if you're not familiar with it here's a link:

      https://doughnuteconomics.org/about-doughnut-economics

There's also a fascinating redesign from an indigenous Māori perspective, that inverts the relationship of the two circles:
