@dhamlinmusic @Fragglemuppet I wondered that too, but what came to my mind was Heather Fawcett's Emily Wilde series, the third of which came out recently: https://heatherfawcett.com/books/adult/. It's sometimes intense but it's quite charming.

@seanbala Are aspirated vs. unaspirated consonants as hard for an English speaker to distinguish as they feel like they would be?

I just finished reading _Lord of the Rings_ aloud to my wife (with our daughter listening in a bit at times), all 1069 pages of it. This is, I think, my third reading of it to her, but it's been probably 20 years since the one before. I started in October, after rereading _The Hobbit_ to her - that was much less of an achievement - and my being on break allowed me to get through about half of _The Return of the King_ in the last three days.

@seanbala @badbede @frameworkcomputer When I was in the market I looked at the documentation for the Framework diy version and it looked really good! Although then I ended up getting a refurb ThinkPad T480 through eBay and putting Linux on it for a slower but much cheaper solution.

"But it gets even more bizarre. According to the 2022 Cooperative Election Study, 14 percent of Muslims (and 12 percent of Hindus and 5 percent of Jews) described themselves as “born-again” or evangelical Christians. This is not a joke." 2/2

Trump has changed what it means to be evangelical
    https://wapo.st/4c2GhIU (gift link)
"The idea of evangelicals who don’t go to church was once unusual. Now, it is surprisingly common. In 2008, only 16 percent of evangelicals said they never or seldom attended church. By 2020, 27 percent did.
Evangelicalism, in short, has become about shared political convictions. In one survey of Christian attitudes ... 43 percent of evangelicals said they did not believe in the divinity of Christ." 1/2

At this #Oakland basement bookstore, customers browse with cocktails in hand
    https://www.berkeleyside.org/2024/06/11/clios-bookstore-bar-oakland
"Bibliophiles will likely notice the shelves of books at Clio’s are not organized alphabetically or by the Dewey decimal system. As helpful chalk markings above the shelves indicate, the books at Clio’s are arranged by decade. This makes for some odd bedfellows: you can find Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde sharing space with The Adventures of Tom Sawyer in the 1880s section..." #sfba

@pausingplace I'm here, but I think a good number of people I followed on the bird site went to Bluesky (I'm not there myself). Unrelated, I wonder whether I'm the only person who unthinkingly reads it as BLOO-ski, rhyming with brewski?
