After many years, I've decided to try to give learning #Hindi another try. I lived in #India for five years but at an international university so English was the lingua franca. I've been told I have a good ear for the sounds but have not made a real effort to learn. Learning #languages is daunting for someone who doesn't like the feeling of making mistakes like me. The goal is one letter a day until I get the whole alphabet!

I'm not so far yet but when my wife has taught me and from what I picked up, I found that the distinction was easier when I wasn't thinking about it too hard. The harder sounds for me are the retroflex sounds where you roll your tongue from the top of your mouth forward as you saw the letter. It is just not a sound we have in English so it is hard to get your tongue around (literally and figuratively).

@seanbala Are aspirated vs. unaspirated consonants as hard for an English speaker to distinguish as they feel like they would be?
