@Gargron didn’t you once prevent repeat showings of my own post’s images, collapsing them to a link in my notifies? Now I’m overwhelmed with all these repeats in my notifications. They’re just distracting noise seen hundreds of times. If I must see anything, I just need to see the action on a piece of content, not the content itself.
@AnthonyJK this argument is literally as old as the party system itself. All you’re saying is that you don’t like the way things are and you refuse to participate in it. . Bully for you. Such a courageous stance. I mean capitulation. Don’t try to rationalize it any other way. Bullshit is bullshit no matter how you dress it up for public consumption.
I don’t see where I said you were a “Republican plant.” Regardless, your argument is as old as the Republic and I’ve heard it since junior high school You say you have been battered by conservatives, but it sounds like you’re fully prepared to help elect more of them so long as you don’t have to pull the lever for a democrat. I am sure a few people in your life think that’s principled and courageous. I think it’s ridiculous, reckless, and dangerous.
@AnthonyJK If going another route means you’re not voting for Democrats, or encouraging others not to, I’m not interested in that movement. The time to create movements is well before a current election cycle where choices and outcomes this stark. Even under ideal circumstances, third party movements in American are the graveyard of political activism. But Republicans always get behind them if they can hurt Democrats. Which they typically do.
I assure you I’ve heard your essay a few hundred times. It’s pointless trying to shame you or blame you. I’m simply pointing out that as a factual matter your choices do help put the rest of us at risk. So have no Illusions about your choices. If you feel shame or blame from those facts, that’s a choice too.
@funcrunch@mekkaokereke@tess@deilann Of course, not voting for the lesser of two evils, fails to negate one vote for the greater of the two evils. Thus, it actually is voting. Just too often it’s voting for the wrong side.
@Gargron, the API docs says v1 is being deprecated, yet I am told about 20 Apps use it, including masto mobile? If our extension uses v1 for something, can we count on it being around at least a year or two? Would there be much warning before it died?
Without Lists, Threads is about as useful as a firehose of talking heads jammed down your throat. Every one of them still convinced that they make the culture. Moderators, please close your eyes while I ask someone to just shoot me now. This is going to be horrific. Okay, I'm over it. Let's try to figure out where we go from here.
I still find it remarkable that so many still don't see how unreasonably fussy and limiting the "quoted posts" debate was—and remains. Do you see anyone complaining that I almost always include an image of what I'm quoting? Not a single complaint yet!.
A "boost" is nothing but a mystery-meat referral to something someone has to click to understand. Any librarian can attest that a citation without a description, recommendation, or annotation, will be a mostly unread artifact. #QuotedPostsASAP
We need to stop worrying about that Meta is going to do, and worry a lot more about what we want to do. If we build the fedinet thoughtfully, Meta's vast userbase could be a major asset to a speedy effort to globalize decentralized social networks. #FutureOverFeatures
@Gargron And without search and better discovery, many will move on to whatever comes next. A lot of very serious and influential people had a terrible experience here, and unless we fix those problems that drove them off, they will just urge others to follow them somewhere else that promises them what they had before.
The only way we can now ensure diversity is a national boycott of any college or university that doesn't publish it's own affirmative action policies, as soon as someone figures out how they can have any that even suggest race. (This decisions is going to end any hope we have of rebalancing this society.)
Yeah, I didn’t mean to endorse Tom, who can be a total bonehead sometimes, but it was the topic he drilled down on before others. We talked often back before MSNBC made him a brand. We still do sometimes. At least 7 years ago, he Tweeted, “I hate to admit it, but @shoq was right: @FoxNew is the problem.” :)
