In the past week, the U.S. executed two Black men, each of whom might have been innocent of their alleged crimes. Five more executions are slated to follow. In this post on @medium, I write about the man executed last Friday and why we should honor his name, Khalil Divine Black Sun Allah.

I'm #Black, #trans, have a uterus, and am in a same-sex marriage. I'm well aware of the threats that #Trump and the #Republicans pose to marginalized people.
Shameful treatment of #Black#Deaf employee #JalonHall by #Google. This company has more money than God; they can afford to provide world-class #accessibility and #accommodations. Not doing (under the excuse of "confidentiality") is a deliberate choice.
Sharing this not to endorse #KatiePorter (or any other candidate), but because I LOL'd at the start of the lead sentence:
"Whatever remaining cryptocurrency moguls who are not looking at prison time have coalesced around a common enemy in Senate candidate Katie Porter, as money from Ron Conway and Andreessen Horowitz just bought $2 million worth of attack ads against her."
I'm also disappointed in Casey Newton's post on this where he literally asks his audience if Substack's pathetic response is good enough for him to keep supporting their platform. Several commenters who clearly didn't read beyond the headline said it was great news. Or maybe they just don't care.
Regardless, I'm not sharing his post for that reason. I'll wait for a news article or blog post *not* hosted on a Nazi Lite platform.
More #Substack writers with large subscription bases are leaving or considering leaving the platform:
"They’re not just OK with, but in principle supportive of, having loads of out-and-out #Nazis on their platform" - @swordsjew, The Sword and the Sandwich
"It is our hope that Substack will reverse course and remove all pro-Nazi material under its existing anti-hate policies. If it chooses not to, we will plan to leave the platform." - @caseynewton, Platformer
Just noticed that the user contributions page on the English @wikipedia, #Wikimedia Commons, and other related projects now shows the number of edits and account creation date right at the top. Handy!
(And yes, in five days I'll hit 15 years as an editor on #Wikipedia 😁)
It looks like Basic (free) users don't have this functionality currently, so that explains why some users (including me) don't see a checkbox in the settings to disable it.
Giving the #police even more power is the last thing #SanFrancisco (or any U.S. city) needs. Voting against dangerous ballot measures like this is the main reason I still go to the polls in every election.
Wow. I know nothing about this author or series, but I'm intrigued by his proposal to reform copyright to last for 30 years max (20 years for the original author with an option to grant another 10 years to someone else). The endless "Mickey Mouse" extensions of copyright clearly need to go.
Regarding how "religion without faith" works, if faith is defined as belief in a deity, there are a number of religions that are not centered on this. Buddhism, for example (though some Buddhists do recognize and/or worship deities). I identified as both a Buddhist and an atheist for a good 20 years.
As not all atheists have the same views about divinity, I wrote about what it means to me to be an atheist here:
