@Hoss I don't think he's dead. I'm not gonna pretend he's playing 4d chess and this is some sort of grand tactic before he makes a comeback, but he IS still alive. @hfaust
The purpose of a system is what it does (POSIWID) is a systems thinking heuristic coined by Stafford Beer,[1] who observed that there is "no point in claiming that the purpose of a system is to do what it constantly fails to do."[2] The term is widely used by systems theorists, and is generally invoked to counter the notion that the purpose of a system can be read from the intentions of those who design, operate, or promote it. When a system's side effects or unintended consequences reveal that its behavior is poorly understood, then the POSIWID perspective can balance political understandings of system behavior with a more straightforwardly descriptive view. Origins of the term edit
Stafford Beer coined the term POSIWID and used it many times in public addresses. In his address to the University of Valladolid, Spain, in October 2001, he said:[1]
According to the cybernetician, the purpose of a system is what it does. This is a basic dictum. It stands for bald fact, which makes a better starting point in seeking understanding than the familiar attributions of good intention, prejudices about expectations, moral judgment, or sheer ignorance of circumstances.
@BowsacNoodle Iwant to know where he lives that it's such a wonderland of skinny bitches. Not enough to devote my autism to finding out, but if he was exposed to the sheer mountain of stank jello flesh that I have to deal with every day I suspect he'd change his fetish. Especially if he has a sense of smell. @tyler@RealRaul@elftummy
Alex is obsessed with NOSTR rn. Fedi is broken because mastodon. ActivityPub is communist (never been done right) Siloing is an accidental feature that works along natural human tendencies. NOSTR will inevitably be flooded with CP which will break it. There might be a market for prepackaged mini PC's running low user instances of soapbox.
@aliss From everything I've seen here in fedi, Linux is very very good at its ability to be configured to do a single thing excellently and reliably. It's when you try to make a general purpose Linux PC that shit falls apart.
@threat So what would you consider to be an ideal pipeline for breaking away from windows/apple? Assuming the person in question is a nontard autist. @laurel@p
Thank you frens. I'll be picking up a laptop that maybe is or is not broken sometime this week. If all is good I think I will start at the Slack until I have a good idea of what I want out of a distro.
@lain Really curious what human endeavors you think we've done to piss off the fucking sun. It could literally eat the entire inner solar system and nothing about its function would change aside from its mass, which would increase by an infinitesimal amount.
Currently somewhere in the desert. I enjoy playing with AI art, and building things in the desert. Currently I am digging a hole for a small basic geothermal cooling system, because summer is coming.
