Do I know any #Perl experts in my #developer network that are open to a contract in Middletown, NJ (suburb of #NYC)?

Please reach out to Ryan Troxtell at #TEKsystems if you’re interested in this position: https://jobs.perl.org/job/22037

If you're not, at least please boost this post for more visibility.

@djsumdog I *know* what signing and notarizing enables—it means I can trace the code back to the developer and it can be killswitched if Apple determines it’s malware.

“Trust the developer,” sneers some rando FOSSinista on Mastodon. You’re not helping your case.

@gnu2 Why, is rms going to personally killswitch malware for me?

The benefits of open source (of which there are many) are orthogonal to the benefits of positively-assured accountability. https://social.sdf.org/@mjgardner/113902612308969808

I don't understand cheapass #Mac developers who pony up for pricey #Apple hardware but then refuse to pay for the Apple Developer Program to notarize and sign their apps.

Is it unreasonable to not want to run random code from the Internet on my own pricey Apple hardware?

@tyil @atomicpoet I have bad news: it’s a self-contradiction to create an open system with the principle of keeping certain elements out.

Don’t bitch about stuff getting through your imaginary wall.

@atomicpoet IMHO that’s orthogonal to the issues #SCOTUS is deliberating over the #TikTok ban law. But it’s hard to separate that from the way some people are acting like the town council in ‘Footloose.’

@jwz The API docs are crap and the only source of truth is the source code?

*Very* damning indictment of #GitHubCopilot as a professional-grade #programming tool from a former core #FreeBSD team member and current #LLVM and #IoT developer.

    My favorite bit:

    > “It’s great for boilerplate!” No. APIs that require every user to write the same code *are broken*. Fix them, don’t fill the world with more code using them that will need fixing when the APIs change.

From 1962–1976, #AynRand published a series of periodicals containing dozens and dozens of nonfiction articles by herself and others. Many were later anthologized, but many more were only available in bound collections from the Ayn Rand Institute.

But now you can get discounted paperback editions from Amazon! https://amazon.com/dp/B0DPJCLFGN?binding=paperback

Here’s an excerpt from the very first article, appropriately titled “Choose Your Issues.” https://NewIdeal.AynRand.org/an-excerpt-from-choose-your-issues-from-ayn-rands-bound-periodicals-now-in-paperback/

The best aspect of #Christmas is the aspect usually decried by the mystics: the fact that Christmas has been commercialized…

The Christmas trees, the winking lights, the glittering colors—provide the city with a spectacular display, which only “commercial greed” could afford to give us.

One would have to be terribly depressed to resist the wonderful gaiety of that spectacle.

@Radical_EgoCom “The person who made the video"?

It's a one-minute clip of Ayn Rand *herself* answering the question. "What do you reply when someone says to you, 'You hate the poor and disadvantaged, don't you?'"

It's a primary source. Why settle for my interpretation?
