@inthehands this showed up in the Guardian today. So perhaps this particular Republican con game is losing it's legs (after decades of damage)

@skinnylatte Sort of a tangent but that's why I love I still have some Bahasa Indonesia rattling around in my brain.
panas vs. pedes ftw!
(I imagine BI might have more terms for nuances of pedes? But I was a kid when I lived there so I don't remember)
@skinnylatte this is a lovely and beautiful thread. It's so generous of you to share your life with us like this. Our own lives are made richer. Thank you for writing it.
@skinnylatte Yeah, the lack of good rail infrastructure in the US is so depressing. Even here in the Northeast, the "high speed" Acela... usually isn't. -sigh-
@skinnylatte I'm jealous. I have just one name, often mis-spelled and less occasionally mis-pronounced.
I mean, I like my name, but English is sometimes just so... boring...
@skinnylatte And Santa Cruz County across the bay! ❤️
@skinnylatte awww. I love happy endings. 💞
@skinnylatte Sorry that's not possible. 😂
@skinnylatte "stupid lucky" is exactly the way I felt when I got to live in Santa Cruz for five years
@skinnylatte noted, ty!
@skinnylatte Since we all have ramen on the brain now... 😅
I've noted down your other best-instant-ramen recommendations (and am going to order some) but... as someone else mentioned, this particular one is REALLY high salt. I'm not on any special diet but when I eat really-high-salt items I'm thirsty for a day and it's just really unpleasant. Do you use the whole packet?
1/ 🧵
@skinnylatte yeah... Monterey-adjacent: I have a lot of issues with Carmel-by-the-sea but it is a fun (💰) place to visit with dogs (we had 2).
Especially staying in the Cypress Inn (Doris Day's hotel). Sooooo dog friendly.
That was a former life, now, but it was fun to live like a rich(er) person for a while.
@skinnylatte yay! Putting that on my list. Since I expect by next summer I will be back in CA (in Petaluma is the plan).
(of course, eating Indonesian food is a little more challenging now that I'm vegetarian...)
@skinnylatte yeah, I sort of miss IG and I have friends back in Santa Cruz who keep asking me "why don't you post to Instagram any more? We loved your photos!" but honestly every time I dip my toe back into IG I just can't... there's just too much dreck they're forcing at me.
(of course, it may be that because I don't go there much anymore their algorithm doesn't know what to do with me anymore, but... it's a hurdle I just can't get over. I try.)
@skinnylatte Thank you @rednikki !
And it's a quick read too.
okay moderators have to step up their game. they’re letting him get away with going way over time. they were doing better earlier
TIL "We Shall Overcome" has its origin as a labor union song before it became more associated with the American civil rights movement.
"In '45 in Charleston SC members of FTA-CIO union, mostly female & African American, began 5-mo strike against American Tobacco Co. To keep up spirits during cold wet winter, Lucille Simmons led a version of gospel hymn, "We'll Overcome (I'll Be All Right)" to end each day's picketing"

@mem_somerville Nice to hear! That's on my to-read list. (In fact, I might end up with that actual book sitting in front of you 😆 ) #interlibraryLoan
Yeah, while I am very excited by the recent USPol developments (whew!) I have definitely found myself dragged back in and was reading mastodon like Twitter inn the old days. So I've unfollowed some folks who were just political news, adjusted my notifications and filters, and deleted the news apps off my phone that I had re-installed...
It's much better now.
@liztai @rscottjones that's a GREAT book (I wonder if I picked it up because of you? It was definitely someone here in the fediverse who had posted about it)
And yes I've also pretty much stopped consuming "news". It's been excellent. But I still have no problem finding out about things that actually affect me.
