   I grew up eating so much spice and chilies for breakfast that nothing is ever truly spicy, and I also didn’t have ‘breakfast food’, so butter chicken at 9am feels right to me (it isn’t spicy)

     Also think English is so imprecise. In other languages I speak there are different words for spicy (has seasoning) and spicy (has heat) and spicy (will burn your butt off)

     I tend to think of spicy only as the last category

     Butter chicken and basmati rice for breakfast (out of a box, Trader Joe’s, not terrible) is the closest convenient approximate of a breakfast I might have in Singapore or Malaysia or Indonesia. Coconut spiced rice with a chicken curry side. Close enough

     @skinnylatte Sort of a tangent but that's why I love I still have some Bahasa Indonesia rattling around in my brain.

     panas vs. pedes ftw!

     (I imagine BI might have more terms for nuances of pedes? But I was a kid when I lived there so I don't remember)

     @skinnylatte so many conversations where it was confusing if someone was cautioning that some food is hot (temperature) or hot (capsaicin)

     I was having some vegan chilaquiles the other day for brunch and the thought crossed my mind: "this is more of a savory breakfast and while not terribly 'spicy' to my palate is at least closer, I wonder if skinnylatte is into such things?"
