@binarydigit I was wondering if the penguins were still there!! That was always my favorite exhibit there. (Related: just yesterday I saw my first ever penguins in the wild—blue penguins coming ashore on Phillip island in Australia!)
@jedda@binarydigit Flickr was amazing social media for me when I was active in it, back maybe 2005-2010ish. Made a number of friends, always enjoyed the convos and photos. Still have an account, but they lost me during that awkward ownership transition, and by then I had launched my own photo site for my adventures. Still have a free account—which is now missing ~25k of my photos from my paid days—but now I’m not sure I’d pay the annual fee. Miss the old days tho!
@JustinH@evan Ahh gotcha. Yeah, I presume Evan’s referring to general publicness of posts. That seems to be a huge downside of Bluesky—which intentionally wants every post, profile, like, and even block to be public, even to nonusers. I can’t see how that’s tenable for a lot of users who currently have their FB/IG/Twitter/etc set to private. Seems like a recipe for disaster in countless ways, especially in the age of cheap/easy AI data analysis.
@evan Isn’t refusing to transfer power after a free election the act of destroying democracy? I mean, it’s sorta right there in the definition, isn’t it? Destroying democracy to prevent someone else from destroying it?
