Come to think of it, I realise I don't really know what Sam Altman meant when he said that "the social contract" has to change because of the advent of AI. What does that even mean? Do I wanna know?
Ngl I hah visions of life under the Weyland-Yutani corporation in the Alien movies ๐๐
@dalias yea the way I use it, there won't be problems with plagiarism. I tell the AI to use my original text. Deepseek does this well. Chatgpt is lousy and keeps injecting its own stuff into it ๐ฉ.
If I feel overwhelmed by stuff to do, I often record my thoughts, and then ask it to create a roadmap for me for the week.
Things like that. I rarely use it to generate content - I think LLMs are lousy for that. Tho I admit I do play around with image generation and gave in once in a while. I try not to however lol
@tarheel Likewise. I built a static website for giggles, but until they improve the user friendliness, I will stay in wp because I like to write easily without worrying about the backend. @simon_brooke@pls@dansinker
@dalias Malaysians are very practical people. If a tool exists, we use it. We don't choose our tools by ideology or moral philosophy lol. I find this a very unique way of thinking ;)
Now that Deepseek is around, I'm definitely using that as it is not only free but better for the environment. And seeing that this is possible, I'm confident the Chinese (or anyone in the world, now that it's open source) will find even more efficient ways to run it. After all, Deepseek can be run from your laptops now. So, in the future I expect more localised AI.
@dalias I know a lot of people think this, and as a writer whose work is no doubt scraped by the machine, I feel your anger. However, AI has really helped me accelerate my writing and also helped me plan and learn Mandarin much faster than before.
The problem is people think AI can replace writers/artists. It cannot. And I think the world is already starting to realise that.
However, AI (the LLMs that is) can be great efficiency tools.
Interesting post about #AI bubble from a Chinese perspective. Use Google Chrome to translate the text -
"The future of large models will be the same infrastructure as power plants. Users have no loyalty and will go wherever they can get cheap electricity."
Anyway, I'm going to try read the original Chinese report. I like that the Chinese companies banded together to work on this.
Look, it's fine if you hate Deepseek for Chinese reasons, it's your right. But leave it alone so that the rest of the world can benefit from it. You have your ChatGPTs et al, use it and leave Deepseek for us. The more they do this, the more determined we are to use Deepseek and other Chinese AI out of spite lol
Are Western social media platforms like #X, #Facebook, Instagram etc just meaner? Is Chinese social media like #xiaohongshu better? Not really. But I can say one thing for sure: #Mastodon remains my social media.
Ya know, I thought I wouldn't mind #PerfectMatch and thought that the complaints about the drama being misogynistic (from China viewers, mind you!) is inflated. Turns out they were right. LOL The main lead (Wang Xinyue) was very unlikeable in the first 20 minutes of the show, lecturing his cousin's wife of being a bad wife for being "too jealous" because his husband was too flirty with women? I don't know man, if this is how they introduce love interests.... lol
@kojote I think they may be referring to the drama involving the founder. He's making decisions that could damage the ecosystem, so some people prefer to be cautious as they don't want to be caught with a service the founder doesn't like. But honestly, I am on wp.com and I don't give af because I can always migrate away to another provider it I want to. Right now, far too many CMS are too expensive and too proprietary for me. @tarheel@dansinker
Creation of the Gods II: Demon Force (slightly spoileryย review)
Although Ji Fa manages to escape with his life in Creation of the Gods I, the tyrannical emperor Yin Shou refuses to let him go. He sends an army to Xiqi to kill him and wrest the Fengshen Bang from him.
