@VikingChieftain@kimwulff I think Russia has had tactical success with aviation on the frontlines but the ranged campaign has been a fiasco because it has been based on wrong assumptions about what will work and how they can win the war.
@kimwulff I am not sure I understand what you mean. You think the Russian air campaign will be decisive, so it doesn't matter if their ground campaign is stalling? @VikingChieftain
@kimwulff I think so too but I don’t think the Russian air campaign is particularly successful. It’s been going on for two years now and Ukraine still gains new capabilities.
It's interesting how the Russian media is freaking out about the Telegram CEO being arrested in France. They openly acknowledge that the Russian military uses Telegram for encrypted communication, and that they don't have an alternative.
But why is it that they don't have an alternative? Why don't they just use Signal (like the Ukrainians)? I think the big question to those who think that Telegram is a secure platform is why it's the only encryption service that is accepted in Russia.
The Russian reaction to Ukraine's invasion of Kursk is somewhat misunderstood. They may be slow, but they are not paralyzed. We should expect them to escalate the war, but that will require the use of conscripts. They are progressing slowly to avoid domestic backlash. https://youtu.be/u_80rUKItGc
@DrGeraintLLannfrancheta@chowderman@randahl I agree. The lack of criticism from the US and Germany is truly remarkable. I wanted to write a newsletter about it today, but I never found the time so that will have to be tomorrow instead.
@Steinbruch@littlealex I think the primary goal is to bring the war onto Russian territory. That was also what Zelensky emphasized. The other things are secondary objectives. I made this video about it a few days ago, and I still think it holds up. https://youtu.be/A4mg1ZUb-7s
@amayer@DeeGLloyd I also think it’s a way of putting pressure on the Russians. If they dig in, it could be hard to throw them out again. It can give Putin quite a few dilemmas. But it is a surprise move and I am not sure anybody fully understands what is going on.
@AndersGottlieb I don’t think so. Russia has never adapted to anything preemptively. They will wait until they have experienced totally avoidable losses a few times before thinking about a new plan.
Zelensky has now confirmed that F-16 is flying in #Ukraine. I think we should see this as an indication that Ukraine does not expect wild and spectacular consequences in the short term. Otherwise they would not announce the planes, but would have left the results to talk for themselves. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c4ng1p72wlwo
@VikingChieftain@meduza_en Yes, it's fascinating how the Russians have managed to persuade conservative Westerners that they are somehow champions of traditional Christian values.
If you take on the responsibility of creating a public link shortener, you also have the obligation to keep it running forever. But of course, it’s Google.
I was on the Friends of #Ukraine Roundtable livestream with @jakebroe and Brandon Mitchell. Unfortunately Philip Ittner lost his internet connection as he was calling in from Kyiv during a power outage. We talked about Russian war crimes, the NATO summit, the American election, whether Russia really wants a ceasefire and other related issues. https://www.youtube.com/live/R1td2dnIBEw
@pamela_butler There is nothing about war crimes in that article. Just a guy stealing stuff. But somehow I get the feeling that misinformation was the purpose of your post, so you probably don’t care.
