I was on the Friends of #Ukraine Roundtable livestream with @jakebroe and Brandon Mitchell. Unfortunately Philip Ittner lost his internet connection as he was calling in from Kyiv during a power outage.

@pamela_butler There is nothing about war crimes in that article. Just a guy stealing stuff. But somehow I get the feeling that misinformation was the purpose of your post, so you probably don’t care.

It is a mistake to think that Russian war crimes are just a result of bad discipline or ruthlessness. In this video I discuss the strategic purpose with war crimes, and why they don't mind having cases at the International Criminal Court. In reality, the war crimes are a tool that Russia uses to challenge the idea of a rules-based world order.

Danish government broadcaster DR is closing their profiles on X because the tone is too toxic and they can’t moderate replies to their posts. Would be great to see them in the Fediverse, but that is probably too much to ask for at this point.

@liztai Many of the facts are true, albeit somewhat skewed. The biggest problem is his assumption that we can look centuries back in history and say something meaningful about how borders and nations should be divided today. Most of today's countries did not exist in the 1700s, but that does not mean that they shouldn't exist today.

@liztai Anyone who knows Russian will have heard Putin say the same things on countless occasions. His understanding of history is not particularly good, but he is definitely passionate about it.

Russia has a year's head start on the realization that the war in Ukraine will take a long time. In Ukraine and the West there were very big hopes invested in the summer offensive, and I largely see the current debate about war fatigue as an expression of the renegotiation that must take place in light of the disappointing results.

@zimowski @goatsarah You need to follow hundreds to get a lively timeline. In the beginning just follow everyone that seems vaguely interesting, and then clean up later. I know it takes some work – we have all been there. I follow almost 800 accounts, and I obviously didn't find those people on day one either.

@berlinbridge Absolutely. If your timeline feels quiet, it’s probably because you follow very few people.

@goatsarah @da_667 I do have a 2017 iPad that I may have to replace because the battery is old. But in general it’s also not an issue for me.
And thinking of it, if I had the choice between upgrading the iPad or purchasing a new battery, I’d probably buy a new iPad anyways.
