Dan McDonald (danmcd@hostux.social)'s status on Tuesday, 29-Oct-2024 15:02:26 JST Dan McDonald I used to use two space a long time ago; because I learned two-space Pascal first, and because emacs defaulted to two space in C-mode.

I'm just trying to provide some background on why folks might do it.

Dan McDonald (danmcd@hostux.social)'s status on Thursday, 22-Aug-2024 13:29:25 JST Dan McDonald pgrep & pkill got brought up during Solaris 2.6, as part of a "get shit booting faster" effort. Lots of `ps -ef | grep....` pipelines in those < 2.6 init scripts.
I remember being pleased learning about it.

Dan McDonald (danmcd@hostux.social)'s status on Thursday, 27-Jun-2024 07:26:11 JST Dan McDonald Today is a good day for me to have my NAT/router in an #illumos zone, where a reboot takes (checks stopwatch) mere single-digit seconds.

Dan McDonald (danmcd@hostux.social)'s status on Wednesday, 05-Jun-2024 01:13:51 JST Dan McDonald He was the first "elder statesman" I had actual interactions & discussions with. I found some corner-case bugs while bringing up the NRL IPv6 & IPsec code while he was at BSDI.

Dan McDonald (danmcd@hostux.social)'s status on Friday, 17-May-2024 06:00:43 JST Dan McDonald I know I must not be the only one who thinks we should already have cheap 10G (not just 2.5G and even 5G) BaseT infrastructure.
I was just talking with @jeffpc about how in a perfect world someone would make a cheap equivalent of Intel's X55x series of NICs. 1/2.5/5/10GBaseT, existing drivers, and a path since the low-end switch vendors don't seem to have aggressively priced >GigE switching HW.
I might be missing latest state-of-the-market, but last time I checked was last year this month.

Dan McDonald (danmcd@hostux.social)'s status on Thursday, 14-Mar-2024 03:36:58 JST Dan McDonald Any recommendations for an "Intel Processor N100" (yes that model) machine that isn't hard-tied to Windows like the one I had to return to Newegg recently?
"Can install Linux/FreeBSD/illumos on its bare metal" is the bar I'm setting.
