     The two things are not mutually exclusive. 🤷🏿♂️

     Yes, there are nice people in the US. But it's also the kind of place where a candidate running a campaign where they promise to make Stephen Miller in charge of immigration (again! 🤦🏿♂️), can win the popular vote.

     If you're not familiar with the term "turd eater" as it pertains to anti-Asian racism, then you may not know enough about Stephen Miller.

     @paw @mekkaokereke it is very easy to think this way, but I have dear friends who live there who are kind, decent people. I guess I am saying "not all Americans," but I think that does need saying.

     @rogerparkinson @mekkaokereke Individually all the Americans I know are genuinely warm, lovely people. But culturally there's an identity that the country refuses to acknowledge and the result is what the rest of the world is seeing every day.

     @mekkaokereke @rogerparkinson To add to this, you can be "nice" and still tacitly or lazily support white supremacist systems. If it seems normal, why would you think you're doing anything wrong?

     @paw @rogerparkinson @mekkaokereke I have a lot of old friends that are lovely people but prioritize gas prices/abortion/something over my safety. They can act nice but that doesn’t keep me safe

     I saw "not all" mentioned and every time I see "not all" I need to remind folks that "enough" is often a lot less than "all" but is still enough to Be A Big Problem. I don't believe "all men" but strongly believe "enough men". I don't believe ACAB but I do believe ECAB. Not all Americans but certainly enough Americans!
