Anyone care to invite me to your #ActuallyAutistic private community? I need a less public, non-surveillance-tech-based group. (IE not facebook nor discord). It does not need to be specific to autism, or disability. I would be happy to even run the tech side if the money came from somewhere. I do know of options. #SpoonieTown? Seems like there should be a safe way to organize in private online in 2026. Oh yeah, I've been through all this recently with the ditch discord thing. @actuallyautistic
@dalias I very much appreciate that point. People pay for the colors and cup holders of that little space in which you ride from here to there.
I envision a modular transport system where people own minimal folding cabins. Roads, rails, or air? Doesn't matter. A network of vehicles could all host you. Click your cabin onto the platform, and go.
If you need to leave it behind, bringing your cabin to where you are now would be cheaper, folded with no passengers.
@dalias@benjistokman I always thought the share options were populated by the android system matching regular expressions taken from the manifests of those apps, not dynamically with hooks waking up every single app to do arbitrary computations potentially including saving your data. but I certainly could be wrong.
@delta having *the same app* bridge people on existing email infra to the #privsec crowd has always been the biggest strength I appreciated Delta Chat for. forking, dropping legacy SMTP, or any such abandonment of that bridge would turn Delta Chat into just another chat protocol in my eye. if I'm going to push people to adopt secure messaging, Signal would always be the easier sell.
@nicholas wow. I tried KDE. I wouldn't say I was exactly "confused by functionality" but now I'm using Gnome. Not giving reasons in this context. Can competition be good? Must there be bad blood?
I loved being a #FediForumAttendee this spring. Thanks @fediforum for convening this wonderful group. I believe in this community, and I hope I can contribute more to the decentralized #SocialWeb in the future, so we can establish humanity's future enshittification-resistant digital nervous system.
@_elena@j12t I'm not in marketing, but I know enough to know that all of us who loved this video need a call to action for how to share it, beyond preaching to the choir. This is a promotional video for the #Fediverse! What would a marketing team do with it? Post on non-fedi networks, to start with, sure. What should people say? How to start those conversations?
#fediforum#livenotes I'm probably misinterpreting what @j12t was saying (so this is a riff) but I love the idea of an #identityPage as a format. It would contain the necessary cryptographic primitives for doing *cough* everything social *waves hands*. But when you look at it, it would look like a personal web page, with various parts having different constraints for usage. Kind of like a personal data locker in a file where your personal data is html.
@egoldblatt@anildash Yes, my first thought: is there a protocol for the wayback machine (or similar robots.txt -respecting crawlers) to bypass the filter for the public good?
@evan the point is that we depend on each other, and such interdependence is prerequisite to wellbeing, and for interdependence to work, we have to care about each other, and the only good way to know how much we care about each other is how much we pay attention to eachothers' wellbeing. So, knowing each other is prerequisite to wellbeing. The fabric of society holding everything together is not bureaucratic. Nor is it any specific number, because numbers are easily manipulated.
@evan access to tax and medical? I don't know why you're saying that. My point is that the society can implement various measures to get the numbers higher, but if you don't know what your neighbor's life is actually like, statistics are not a good measure of the health of a society.
@evan none of the above, but how well everyone *knows* how well everyone else is doing.
You care? You know. If a class genuinely does not care about another class, that is sickness. We don't have to succeed, but we do have to try, not give lip service. Not donate and forget.
What is the state of latest collective self-moderation theory and practice? What would a configurable opt-in algorithmic #fediblock look like? #collectiveSelfModeration
I have a degree in New Media, and an obsession with disenshittification and web technology. Basically always talking about systems and HCI.When it seems to you like I must have been living under a rock, it probably seems to me like you have been living under the wrong rock, just because it's bigger.
