For example all algorithmic timelines are editorial by nature so the editors have a lot of control here. Bluesky tries this with feeds but they're poorly done and barely work. Tho, there are no benevolent dictators and it'll corrupt eventually.
Mastodon just streams everything in linear order and that's very neutral but a bit boring.
This is just to illustrate how impactful design is to the "vibe".
@_elena yes but i disagree with Impossible Foods analogy.
Impossible Foods disrupt and innovate which even if they were VC funded the business logic aligns with the goal.
There's no business logic in Bluesky and it's not really innovating or disrupting so the actual social gain here extremely untrustworthy.
What will happen when VC bros start asking for their money back? Bluesky gonna stay selling domain names? It just doesn't compute no matter how you look at it.
@fluffykittycat@_elena yup people conveniently forget that Twitter was mostly a shithole even before Musk bought it. We need to raise the bar with our expectations to avoid repeating the same mistakes.
Been online for too many years to fall for this trick again. Reddit and OpenAI literally just happened and everyone's ignoring all of the red flags. Again.
back to some videos with #kdenlive and it has improved a lot since I touched it last year!
I'm making coding tutorials for youtube and kdenlive has everything you'd need. The workflow combined with KDE's Spectacle is very pleasant: screencapture -> import clip -> place and right click transform to compose the view.
The stability improvements are very noticeable as well. I've had some crashes last year but not this time around!
@tokyo_0@cmdr_nova I really fail to follow what you're saying here. If you could articulate yourself better maybe this conversion would be going somewhere 🙄
The whole point of fediverse is to be public and accessible to everyone not only the people who own the keys.
This is the price you pay as part of the architecture as there's a clear dichotomy of public-v-private data. You can't have both and we're choosing public.
@nixCraft why do people keep sharing this. Web traffic being automated does NOT mean dead internet bots.
It's just web scrapers and normal automation - do we imply that web shouldn't be automated? Am I supposed to do manual labor at all times and write down page results with pen and paper or smt?
@trevorflowers since college my dream was to work on FOSS but it never materialized as I had to pay bills somehow. If I had UBI it most certainly would have become a reality as I all I needed is some eggs, ramen and a laptop.
I trully believe UBI would be the biggest positive societal shift since the internet. That extra safety net is just so invaluable for human creativity!
Have you noticed that fediverse talk gets absolutely no engagement on Threads despite Threads promising to integrate itself with it in the near future. I refuse to believe an average Joe is not interested in decentralization when average Threads commenter is so bent on politics.
Of course it's impossible to test algo timelines unfortunately so we'll never know.
