@Microplastics101 No hard feelings 😉 But let's find out what's happening. LibreOffice isn't perfect but it shouldn't be crashing like that. What version, on what operating system? In what format is the presentation (eg .odp)?

@Microplastics101 That's not very helpful feedback, Steve 😕 Millions of people use Impress so it clearly is "functional". Why not help the volunteers who give you a free office suite, with specific feedback (LibreOffice version, operating system, document format, what you're trying to do, what you can't do etc.) Otherwise we can't make any improvements with such curt and vague "feedback"...

@skatox Glad to hear it! LibreOffice has never been written in Java, BTW – the vast majority of the codebase has always been C++. There were a few features implemented in Java but also rarely-used.

LibreOffice is available in 120 languages – which may be a record for such a large piece of software! And this is all thanks to our Native Language Communities, who translate the suite's interface and help content. Here's what they did last year: https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2025/05/26/libreoffice-native-language-projects-tdfs-annual-report-2024/ #foss #OpenSource #freesoftware

@sn0n Hi, where are you coming across that site? We don't use it – the site for all English-speaking users is https://www.libreoffice.org/ – but if it's still being listed somewhere, we will remove it. Thanks!

@bazcook We're absolutely puzzled too. Never seen that before or other reports from users on macOS, I'm afraid. Searching around, we can only find reports of "Operation not permitted" in the terminal or when building .dmg images, not opening. The only other idea we have is to try a different mirror server from https://download.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/stable/25.2.3/mac/x86_64/LibreOffice_25.2.3_MacOS_x86-64.dmg.mirrorlist

@bazcook At a loss too – that's not one we've seen before either, "Operation not permitted". Does the same thing happen with any other .dmg files saved in the same place?

@bazcook So you're definitely downloading the Intel version from the website? (As Apple Silicon is the default CPU choice – there's no way to auto-detect.) Can you post a screenshot of the message you receive when you try to install the Intel version on your 2017 Air?

Question: do you really have control over your data? Depending on the formats you use, that answer might be no. Here's why the Open Document Format (as used by LibreOffice and other suites) is important: https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2025/05/23/why-is-odf-important/ #openstandards

Why is the Open Document Format (ODF) important? - The Document Foundation Blog
      from Italo Vignoli
Consider the history of control over user files, whether for organisations or individuals Think about all the documents you have created in your lifetime: School assignments. Work presentations and reports. Household budgets. Letters. Perhaps even a personal diary or your CV. Now imagine this: a few years go by, and when you try to open […]

@rainyday Try asking on https://ask.libreoffice.org (there's a German subforum there) with details about your setup – especially the LibreOffice version, and possibly a screenshot so that others can help.
