    @FemaleIsNotAFeeling @polarisera @ylem @Piss_Ant I spoke incorrectly! The staple was in the washer which wouldn't work due to the staple's presence.

    I've never lost anything in the dryer, but I only use it rarely. I still can't see how anything of any size could disappear, even a sock or a pair of underwear.

The dryer was not working properly and he opened it and found a huge staple from a paper bale of shavings screwing everything up. Needless to say, my sorta partner got a serious talking-to.

    Hey, Spinsters, how in hell do you lose your clothes in the dryer? I have NEVER done this and have been doing laundry for 57 years.

    @FemaleIsNotAFeeling @polarisera @ylem @Piss_Ant Outside in the summer and on a laundry rack next to the woodstove in winter or a soggy summer (like this one!). Helps to humidify the air. I thought wood heat was dry until I spent 12 days in the hospital; how do people tolerate central heat?!?!?

    @LostInCalifornia @william @Flick Test Kitchen did a study and the best way to aerate wine is to pour it back and forth between a bottle (or whatever) and a measuring cup. Achieves the same mellowness in a few minutes.

    (That said, I have a bottle of wine from 1986. I drank the first bottle on my sixty-fifth birthday and omigod it was so good! Never had wine that mellow and smooth.)

    Why all this anti-Putin crap on Spinster? I have no doubt that the mercenaries (the U.S. calls its mercenaries "contractors") got a better offer from the U.S. which has no money but amazingly has unlimited money when it comes to destabilizing other governments. Putin is very popular because Russians feel he's given Russia back a notion of its own sovereignty and significance. I DO NOT BELIEVE ANY CRAP published by propaganda purveyors about anything and always go looking at various genuine news sites -- you know, the journalists who have to beg for money -- for real information. Be skeptical, folks, particularly if you don't buy into the media trash regarding trans.

    @tangleofsnakes Please, please, please, do something to prevent it! Last time we were discussing UTIs I offered up my simple preventative / cure, which is apple cider vinegar (you only need to use a little bit in a glass of water). There are also cranberry capsules. I can't believe people are still so ignorant of the harm antibiotics cause.

On the other hand, my sorta partner's boss in a NYC typeshop called up the shop where I worked and swooned over the way I said, "Good evening, Expertype." I think many women are encouraged as girls to speak in high, squeaky baby voices, and I find it troubling.

Some woman who thinks Trump is the greatest thing since sliced bread apparently wrote a letter, and five Pavlov's dogs (my apologies to all dogs because no dog is this stupid) wrote hysterical letters this week. I can't believe people have nothing better to do with their time than start salivating as soon as they hear the word Trump. (One assumes they don't play contract bridge.)

    @PohlMe @polarisera Decades ago I realized that people did not take seriously toxic pollutants THEY COULD NOT SEE. I think that has changed a bit, but people still are unwilling to confront the fact that the way we live in inherently unsustainable. I figure the next person who repeats garbage to me such as animals are causing climate change (SIL) I am going to straightforwardly ask them what they are giving up to help the environment. Are they giving up supporting militarism? Are they giving up central heating? Are they giving up getting on a plane? I am fully cognizant that I live in luxury (running water, indoor plumbing, two vehicles [one of which is old enough to purchase alcohol], and a warm house I nearly own debt-free), but I don't think most Westerners have a clue.

    Autodidact living in old farmhouse (1840) on 44 acres of woods and pasture. Most of my critters now are wild ones: deer, raccoons, porcupines, skunks, weasels, squirrels, many birds including turkeys. Mother Nature keeps me sane in the insane world men have created.
