susansiens (susansiens@spinster.xyz)'s status on Tuesday, 04-Jul-2023 05:58:43 JST susansiens @LostInCalifornia @william @Flick Test Kitchen did a study and the best way to aerate wine is to pour it back and forth between a bottle (or whatever) and a measuring cup. Achieves the same mellowness in a few minutes.
(That said, I have a bottle of wine from 1986. I drank the first bottle on my sixty-fifth birthday and omigod it was so good! Never had wine that mellow and smooth.) -

TheWitchBitch ?️???️ (thewitchbitch@spinster.xyz)'s status on Tuesday, 04-Jul-2023 05:58:43 JST TheWitchBitch ?️???️ @susansiens @LostInCalifornia @william @Flick I'll have to try this.
I have one of those dumb little aerator things you stick in the top of the bottle and I pour it from as high up as possible into the glass without splattering. And then I swirl vigorously and blow into the glass, let it sit for 5. It helps a lot. -

William A. Ferguson (william@genderheretics.xyz)'s status on Tuesday, 04-Jul-2023 05:58:44 JST William A. Ferguson Now I know LostInCalifornia knows this but this is for you Flick, who resides over yonder the pond, as Two Buck Chuck is a very American thing.
There's this wine that sells for $1.99 (or it once did) called Charles Shaw, hence the name Two Buck Chuck.
It's actually outstanding, given the price, but that's par for the course with wine. I've had Vintage 1936 wine that tasted like crusty, dusty ass and box wines that were amazing. -

LostInCalifornia (lostincalifornia@spinster.xyz)'s status on Tuesday, 04-Jul-2023 05:58:44 JST LostInCalifornia @william @Flick Pro tip: Sometimes if you take a cheap red wine, open it and let it aerate for 5 or 6 hours, it mellows out, too.
(I used to give a lot of parties.)
