    @polarisera @Sherri_Ingrey Can you explain this to me? Vultures are wonderful creatures who clean up the dead bodies of this world. I've been lucky enough to see turkey vultures here in Maine. They look like large black chickens with bald heads! (Their heads are bald so they don't get feathers contaminated by eating carrion.)

    @Sherri_Ingrey @Phil My supervisor when I was typesetting at a newspaper found an article asking women how satisfying their sex lives were utterly hilarious. Right-wing women said their sex lives were so satisfying while Jewish women said theirs were terrible. The Jewish women were honest and the evangelicals / fundamentalists were obviously lying!

    @polarisera @HebrideanHecate @stingray @Piss_Ant Yes, I read quite a bit about this years ago. We're designed to carry a light load of parasites -- one researcher gave himself worms and another walked barefoot through latrines in Asia -- but not a heavy load so people have always had traditional methods of keeping parasites in check. I never dismiss ideas as ridiculous, but keep looking for more information.

    @polarisera @HebrideanHecate @stingray @Piss_Ant The mania for essentially sterile environments is baffling to me. So many women think disinfecting everything is a good idea, and then they turn around and eat garbage. Just heard that fast-food and casual dining outlets are raking it in.

    @HebrideanHecate @Maud_Gonner You might be amused at the graduation requirements in California high schools in the 1960s: you had to learn to swim. Of the three gym class offerings I had in Riverside in 1969 I chose tennis; the other options were modern dance and touch football.

    I miss swimming so much, preferably in Maine's innumerable lakes and ponds, but with an open wound from butchery (surgery) I can't take a chance on picking up flesh-eating bacteria.

    @Piss_Ant @stingray You couldn't find any decent clothes? If you're 3X or under -- and I know you are no longer that size! -- a lot of retailers are now carrying clothes to fit. But if you put on weight in weird places, as you say, it could be a problem. Even when I weighed 60 pounds more, I still had a regular figure, just a lot bigger.

    @GrumpyOldNurse @stephagain I said to an alcoholic (who does not drink) that I only have alcohol when I have a taste for it, which is fairly infrequently. He pointed out that no one who is alcoholic can even comprehend not having a "taste for it."

    If it's not clear what I mean, I think about what I would like to eat or drink. If something I think of is unappealing, I say I have no taste for it.

    Autodidact living in old farmhouse (1840) on 44 acres of woods and pasture. Most of my critters now are wild ones: deer, raccoons, porcupines, skunks, weasels, squirrels, many birds including turkeys. Mother Nature keeps me sane in the insane world men have created.
