@GalacticTurtle @susansiens @stephagain People act offended because you're a woman with clear boundaries who actually enforces them, not because they don't think anyone would slip you an unwanted alcoholic drink.

@GrumpyOldNurse @GalacticTurtle @susansiens yes people are super offended by women with boundaries.
that's 100% what people are offended by.

@stephagain @GalacticTurtle @GrumpyOldNurse And it can be very difficult to keep people from pressing alcohol or alcohol-containing foods on other people, even when they have been refused. I can only assume it's because the pushy person wants to justify their own habit.

@susansiens @stephagain @GrumpyOldNurse There were two occasions in college when I was given an alcoholic drink as a joke. So these days when I'm handed a supposedly non-alcoholic drink in a party setting then examine it and people act offended that I'd be suspicious, I wonder if now that I'm part of an older demographic that's just not something anyone would do or if that person is simply underestimating what others might find humorous.

@stephagain I hear you. I still have rules about how much, and when. I'm better at sticking to my rules than I used to be, but it never seems to go away entirely.

@GrumpyOldNurse @stephagain I said to an alcoholic (who does not drink) that I only have alcohol when I have a taste for it, which is fairly infrequently. He pointed out that no one who is alcoholic can even comprehend not having a "taste for it."
If it's not clear what I mean, I think about what I would like to eat or drink. If something I think of is unappealing, I say I have no taste for it.

@susansiens @GrumpyOldNurse I was lucky enough that I noticed I was becoming an alcoolic before I really became one.

@stephagain @susansiens @GrumpyOldNurse Once when it was revealed I don't drink alcohol, a group of people asked me what I do when I have the urge to drink alcohol. I said I never had an urge to drink it and they said I was being untruthful. But drinking all the time is so normal in my line of work, perhaps everyone really does have a bit of an addiction going on.

@GalacticTurtle @susansiens @GrumpyOldNurse I never question anyone when they refuse alcohol because I assume they might be fighting an addiction
