@Di4na The 2016 Eghbal report [1] is very good; pp 120+121 are interesting about GitHub before the MS #EEE.

@forgefed #ForgeFed [2] - could you remind us of a good URL on ForgeFed funding (NLNet?) as a real-world example of funding FOSS?

@khinsen @civodul might have some good links on the current status of other EU-based initiatives towards sustainable incomes for FOSS developers/maintainers.

Armenia ratifying the #RomeStatute [1] is excellent news for humanity (124 states are now party to the #RomeStatute that establishes the #InternationalCriminalCourt) but bad news for Putin, Maria Lvova-Belova, Joseph Kony, Alfred Yekatom, David Sanakoev, Omar al-Bashir, Charles Blé Goudé, Saif al-Islam Gaddafi [2][3] and quite likely Ismail Haniyeh and Benjamin Netanyahu [4].

List of people indicted in the International Criminal Court
The list of people who have been indicted in the International Criminal Court includes all individuals who have been indicted on any counts of genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, aggression, or contempt of court in the International Criminal Court (ICC) pursuant to the Rome Statute. An individual is indicted when a Pre-Trial Chamber issues either an arrest warrant or a summons after it finds that "there are reasonable grounds to believe that the person has committed a crime within the jurisdiction of the Court". An arrest warrant is issued where it appears necessary "to ensure the person's appearance at trial, to ensure that the person does not obstruct or endanger the investigation or the court proceedings, or, where applicable, to prevent the person from continuing with the commission of that crime or a related crime which is within the jurisdiction of the Court and which arises out of the same circumstances". The Pre-Trial Chamber issues a summons if it is satisfied that a summons is sufficient to ensure the person's appearance. Overview The ICC has publicly indicted 52 people. Proceedings against 22 are ongoing:...

International Criminal Court investigation in Palestine
The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Fatou Bensouda, on 20 December 2019 announced an investigation into war crimes allegedly committed in Palestine by Israeli personnel or members of Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups since 13 June 2014. The allegations include the establishing of illegal West Bank settlements and violations of the law of war by personnel of the Israeli Defence Forces during the 2014 Gaza War, including claims of targeting Red Cross installations. Members of armed Palestinian organizations, including Hamas, have been accused of deliberately attacking Israeli civilians and using Palestinians as human shields. Israel is not a member of the ICC and disputes its jurisdiction on the basis that Palestine is not a sovereign state capable of being a party to the Rome Statute, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly condemned the allegations and investigation. Preliminary investigation and question of jurisdiction The jurisdiction of the ICC is limited to the territories and nationals of state parties. Israel signed the Rome Statute on...

It took several steps of following URLs to find the plugin's licence. I was a bit worried given all the blabla about it being "acquired" by Automattic. It is [1][2] free software, covered by the Expat licence [3].

    Definitely good news! :)

So it can be freely: 0 used, 1 modified, 2 redistributed and 3 redistributed in a modified form.

Have you tried @ mentioning some of the journa.host people who know you well? They're probably new to taking responsibility for coordinators/moderators FOSS style. GAFAM encourages passivity; FOSS encourages responsibility.

Seems like @opencollective might want to check if Brown's journa.host management is consistent with opencollective's ethics.

The strings "wiki" and "git " are completely absent. Online democracy needs structure and editing history.

p18: "We recommend that the Nordic countries work to introduce a legal demand for effective age verification and parental control as default settings for relevant social media platforms." - refers to FR, DE, EU policies and CNIL [35].

Obligatory 3rd-party age verification for anyone wishing to toot? Depends on defn of "relevant".

Online age verification: balancing privacy and the protection of minors
Online age verification: a complex issue with significant privacy risks Verifying the age of an Internet user is hampered by the difficulty for the various technical stakeholders on the Internet to really know who is the person behind the computer or smartphone. This need to identify Internet users is, in fact, an issue for privacy and personal data protection, since knowledge of an individual's identity can then be linked to their online activity. Yet, this contains particularly sensitive, private information.

Does the GNU Affero General Publice License v3 #AGPLv3 for software package S *require* that a web service W running S provide a facility for user U of the S on W to export his/her user-created *content* from server W to local files?

[My guess is "no". In which case if U gets tired of W (or W closes down, changes ToS, whatever), then U can start a new service running S, but may have to recreate the content from scratch (or html scrapes).]

      GNU Affero General Public License
The GNU Affero General Public License (GNU AGPL) is a free, copyleft license published by the Free Software Foundation in November 2007, and based on the GNU General Public License, version 3 and the Affero General Public License. The Free Software Foundation has recommended that the GNU AGPLv3 be considered for any software that will commonly be run over a network. The Free Software Foundation explains the need for the license in the case when a free program is run on a server: The GNU Affero General Public License is a modified version of the ordinary GNU GPL version 3. It has one added requirement: if you run a modified program on a server and let other users communicate with it there, your server must also allow them to download the source code corresponding to the modified version running there. The purpose of the GNU Affero GPL is to prevent a problem that affects developers of free programs that are often used on servers. The Open Source Initiative approved the GNU AGPLv3 as an open source license in March 2008 after the company Funambol submitted it for consideration through its CEO Fabrizio Capobianco...
