+1 on @freemo - capital punishment is generally very wrong.

However as someone that has experienced the "Martini effect" of Nitrogen Narcosis then Nitrogen Hypoixia may be one of most humane ways to do it.

As a long time diver and Instructor Trainer I can tell you that nitrogen narcosis is a real thing... and of the "ways to exit this world" it would be in my top 10 list.

I am looking for someone that would like to take over ownership and management of VerifiedJournalist.org

"All in" it now costs about $2300/mo to run Newsie.social.

That includes servers, moderation staff cost, insurance, etc. (most of the staff including myself work free on Newsie)

That's a big jump in costs over the past 3-4 months (largely because of Twitter's meltdown)

However we've reached the point of unsustainability because we take in only $1000/mo and we're running out of runway.

#Fediverse platforms, and #mastodon in particular, are simply not equipped with the tools and processes to handle the legal and liability requirements that come with running larger public instances.

The moderation tools are woefully inadequate, and other critical trust and safety tools are completely absent.

This exposes instance operators (in the US at least) to liability, regulation, & enforcement actions.

For example CSAM detection / scanning on the timelines is non-existent.

Social age verification requirements in the US are going to become a problem in the #fediverse, particularly for larger instances.

It is the mainreason we shut down new signups on Newsie last month.

Now the team at https://HoneytreeTech.com is starting work on a module that uses https://stripe.com/identity to handle age and ID verifications.

The challenge is it's not free ($1.50 per validation).

So maybe this is the start of a super-premium instance offering.

Maybe not a bad thing.
