@aral I always recommend that people answer a radical 3rd party on polls.

1. It's not your actual vote.
2. It scares the establishment into making stronger concessions.
3. It forces the establishment voters to hear about the alternatives and what life could be like beyond the 2 parties.

@ryanhoulihan This whole thread is the best thing ever posted to Mastodon that I've seen.

Some years ago, I made it past a round of layoffs. I started counting who got let go. At least 70% of them were POCs. Most of the 30% of white people were about to retire and packaged out early. Definitely not representative of the company's demographics.

When I brought this up:
- "I don't believe in affirmative action." 🤔
- "We even cleared the list with our lawyers!" 😑
- "But *I* am not racist!" 🙈

To the staffer reading this, this government and their actions require your labour. You don't have to be complicit. Organize with your colleagues and walk away. They can't function without you. You probably don't get paid enough to read all of the horror that's coming into this inbox anyway. Now is a great time to demand more for your labour, especially if your salary hasn't been keeping up with inflation.

@jeffowski There's a concept called the "cost of cash" in retail businesses.

You have to:
- Wait for the purchaser to count out cash
- Have the cashier count out the right amount of change.
- Cash accounting every night.
- Make sure you have sufficient change.
- Keep that cash safe from robberies.
- Deposit the money safely on a nightly basis.
- Deal with forgeries.

POS systems tend to save businesses money. The sign is really for avoiding taxes.
