@joeo10 people can feel that both parties have sold out the poor and working classes, but they can't see it clearly through the haze of billionaire controlled media, so they're just yanking back and forth on the biggest lever they have - even though the only two settings are "bad" and "horrific".

It's clear that the DNC is deeply compromised by moneyed interests, to the point that they just aren't capable of meaningful reflection or action.

@robdaemon so then it's more "JavaScript developers are the easiest/cheapest to find, so this is the fastest/cheapest path to get what we want" which is one level worse lol

@joeo10 part of the problem is that the groups she lists tend to have a lot of money to contribute to campaigns.

YouTube seems to have broken most embeds on Mastodon, Discord, etc. I'm not going to wait for their bloated app or a web browser to fight for RAM on my wimpy tablet just to watch a video linked from a shitpost.

@thomasfuchs this looks too much like science for it to be something that might change their opinion on anything.

@joeo10 I've been running DNS based solutions (currently pihole) on my home LAN for several years, and I still need to use ublock origin because some sites act really weird when they can't load ads due to DNS.

I'm also not sure how feasible DNS based blocking is with mobile devices on public networks etc.

It's utterly horrible that we've decided that allowing people to become billionaires is more important than universal access to lifesaving medical care.

@thomasfuchs it's been about 20 years, but I once won an eBay auction and then the seller...didn't send anything. Completely ghosted me.

I had to fight with eBay & PayPal for weeks to get a refund. I kept telling them that it wasn't my fault that the person never shipped, and they finally relented.

Looks like Google is up to no good with Chrome again, so people on here are once again putting Firefox on a pedestal. So predictable.

@synlogic I don't really. I believe that it is currently the least-worst option, but I don't trust that it will stay that way due to most of Mozilla's funding coming from Google.

@joeo10 this makes me even more annoyed that folks kept putting Mozilla on a pedestal on here, pressuring everyone to switch to Firefox as the one true browser that cares about you and the Internet.

@systemd I know it's a shitpost, but nano literally showing you at the bottom of the screen what its important commands are is one of the reasons I like it so much better :p

@thomasfuchs it depends. Most of my almost 2 decades at work has been spent on the same code that originated in the late 1990s. I wish I could rewrite it from scratch, but it's too big.

@joeo10 but that would inconvenience investors in the shipping and/or insurance companies, who we have decided as a society are more important than the general public!

@thomasfuchs people rave about UniFi, but this stuff looks totally overkill for my needs. We're talking maybe 2 dozen devices on my home LAN in a mix of ethernet and WiFi.

I don't want a rackmount anything lol.

I think it would be nice to have something that supports a mesh of 3 APs: 1 at (or combined with) the WAN router, 1 at the far end of the house via Cat 5e, and maybe 1 upstairs and/or at the front of the house via WiFi only.
