   Finally saw 2001: A Space Odyssey
   Here’s my synopsis:

   Part 1: Ape men shouting. so much shouting

   Part 2: the part everyone remembers with iconic space travel shots and HAL, which could’ve been a kick-ass movie

   Part 3: Let’s experience what it’s like to do LSD, probably! Woohooo!

   My review: a whole HOUR could’ve been edited out of this movie for PACING reasons, and nothing would’ve been lost.

     @HunterZ @KydiaMusic @emsquared Fun Fact: Douglas Trumbull the guy who did the special effects on 2001 also did the special effects on TMP so not surprised.

     @KydiaMusic @emsquared it was probably even more influential on the first Star *Trek* film, which doubled down on the pacing problems inherent in using lots of long visual effects sequences.

     @emsquared the special effects are impressive, especially given the era. I can definitely see this film’s influence on Star Wars

     @KydiaMusic Glad you finally saw it. A very different pace compared to modern films. I was 6 when I first saw it (Mum saw the U certificate & thought it was a nice family field movie about space). Amazing for the time made.

     @KydiaMusic @emsquared Not just Star Wars, and even not just movies.

     I feel 2001: A Space Oddessy was a huge influence on pop culture. Everywhere you look there's at least some hints of 2001 on there.

     @emsquared @HunterZ I heard that was the case since he couldn't nailed the right specs at the time. Didn't affect the film one bit though.

     @HunterZ @joeo10 I believe the only reason the target planet was Jupiter in 2001 is because Trumbull couldn't get the rings of Saturn right which he'd perfected by the time of Silent Running.
