@strypey Also worth checking out what your local library has. Some films may be available on DVD. Some may be available on e-library provided services like Kanopy. Some older films used to be on TVNZ+ and may return!
We’ll drink a drink, a drink To Lily the Pink, the Pink, the pink The saviour of the human race For she invented medicinal compound Most efficacious in every case
Lily the Pink is a tribute to American businesswoman Lydia Pinkham (1819-83) whose compound initially marketed as a “woman’s tonic” for menstrual and menopausal symptoms before being touted as a Cure All! ⚕️
Glynis Johns - Sister Suffragette (from Mary Poppins film)
(I sang this song as a child and thus was introduced to the idea of Votes or Equal Rights for Women. The singer, Glynis Johns died last year at age 100 years).
@vagina_museum a friend's female dog had cyclical bleeding from her vagina. I knew because I saw the blood and asked if the dog was OK. Hard not to believe my own eyes.
@mekkaokereke@craignicol Yep. The meaningful number is How Many Humans on Planet Earth? When it slides below carrying capacity and decent lives, maybe authorities might look at policies.
Policies that can help include access to healthcare and support for reproductive rights. People should be able to choose to have a child or not.

@oddhack@libroraptor@nddev@anne_twain@Gustodon@georgepenney Wellington City Libraries (NZ) are civilized places and while mostly quietish, they're not silent. They also allow visitors to eat there although they request not smelly or messy food please. I've been known to spend hours at a library in between other engagements. Free Wifi, comfy furniture, restrooms, and if you have a packed lunch, food too. My local branch Te Awe has a cafe too. https://www.wcl.govt.nz/visit/locations/te-awe-library/
@thomasfuchs It feels like parents sharing pictures created by their young children at childcare centers or early school. Nobody but a parent would think they're art. Fine to share to show kids' creative minds are developing but not worth giving more than a quick 👍 to
@FantasticalEconomics@jackofalltrades Years back NZ feminist economist Marilyn Waring pointed out how narrow antiquated views on productivity measured only by GDP are.
When a woman is giving birth, the work of a doctor or nurse or midwife is counted but the mother's labour(ing) is ignored because no one has put a dollar value on it.
@iuculano It's pretty hypocritical hearing American people including senators say they don't want the Chinese government to have the power to demand people's data histories and information.
The US Stored Communications Act (for in USA) and the CLOUD Act (for overseas) give the US government power to request and access personal data held by any any US based or owned company. The average American is more at risk from their own government than from the Chinese government!
