Honestly, I *DO* wish Mastodo-, I mean, The Fediverse were more popular. I left a bunch of awesome people on Twitter after Apartheid Enthusiast Musk took over, and I haven't interacted with them since. Makes me sad, and I wish they were here.

I think ultimately, too many people don't understand the difference between being Civil™ and being decent. People say the most heinous, racist, evil shit in a Civil Tone™ all the time (see, cf: Charles Murray). Calling these motherfuckers out for the worthless evil cowards they are may not be "civil," but it's a hell of a lot nicer.

I'll be honest, man. Sometimes when I see how easily and eagerly people are to excuse and justify all kinds of violence against the poor, homeless people, women, trans people, nonbinary people, sex workers, BIPOC folk, Jewish people, immigrants, and all the intersections therein, it really bums me out. The only thing more mystifying than how easily people will justify violence, is how offended they get when I call them out as the worthless pieces of shit they are.

Glad to see Republicans doing everything they can to protect (white) kids from dangers like "seeing gay people be happy" and "learning racism exists," so they can be shot to pieces in school in between floor shifts in the factory. You know. Like God intended.

Here's a super important recommendation for all the cool people coming over from the #TwitterMigration - for the *most* part, there aren't (as far as I can see) as widespread problems with white supremacists, nazis, far-right trolls, incels, and assorted skips, skags, and scallywags as there are on Twitter/Fb/etc. BUT - they are still here!

HOWEVER, whereas on Twitter, engaging with these various numskulls, nitwits, and nincompoops is a "great" way to get engagement (what with the rage-baiting, hate-clicks, pile-ons etc), it's far less important (and may be counterproductive) here! If some fuckhead right wing fuck jumps in your mentions saying things about "Black-on-Black Crime™" or "groomers," or starting every sentence with "females," you can just block them! Don't even engage! Just report and block their bitch-asses!

Remember - there is nothing on earth you can say to libcuckkiller1488 or KanyeWasRight6969 that is going to be in any way productive! Just block, report, and move on!

I think this is my first time being on the other side of a #TwitterMigration. It's pretty cool! For all the new folks here making an #introduction for those concerned about not being able to find POC, I strongly recommend starting by following hashtags and using those to follow people who use/are associated with them. I did that and found a really active, engaged, diverse, and vibrant Black community here. Use the following hashtags in particular:

There are other hashtags associated with other communities - our Indigenous siblings use #Indigenous and maybe #NDN, not sure. Hegemonic (i.e., WASP) US culture is very much "swearing is uncouth." Which is a problem not only for non-USAmericans, but also for e.g. Black Americans speaking in US white-centered spaces (like much of Mastodon). Like Jyoti said below - cultural hegemony.

The absolute *worst* is when white people get offended when Black people say "nigga." I have never wanted to kick a motherfucker in the chest as much as I do when that happens.

One of my biggest concerns about switching over to Mastodon when I did, was losing the online Black community I developed on birb site, many of whom were very helpful to my continuing to thrive as I negotiated white supremacist spaces in my professional and personal life. I am very happy to find another such community here, and want to give a shout outs to SOME (wish I could tag everybody - the search function is pretty terrible here for some reason) of the people that keep me coming back to the Fediverse. Love you guys!

There isn't a single rational reason to oppose giving free houses to homeless people. The data are in and they are clear as day.

-It saves money (even a Reaganite should appreciate that)
-It's better for public health on Every. Single. Measure.
-It helps people get into the workforce, jesus christ, I thought you were about making people work? Right?
-It's the decent, humane thing to do

The only - the ONLY - reason to oppose free houses for the homeless that I can imagine, is a desire to punish people for their own poverty.

I understand the sentiment behind people saying we "need" conservative media to "balance" against potential groupthink, but consider that the so-called "liberal media" has advocated in the past 7 years, through both op-eds and journalism the following:

-trans people are gross and weird
-that Ron DeSantis, he sure is a maverick, huh?
-these goddamn liberal college kids keep getting mad at racists, like a bunch of pussies
-we should impose martial law to get these ni-, I mean, thugs in BLM off the street
-man, these Nazis are pretty dapper!
-why do people not want to date Republicans? Just because they keep espousing racist, homophobic, and misogynistic ideas? That's fuckin weak, bro.

What I find interesting about racists, is that all their feeble attempts to be "clever" or "subtle" invariably fail. In part because all their stupid little retorts or "just asking questions" have already been done one million times since 1865 (BORING AND OLD), and in part because, by definition, racists are the dumbest motherfuckers on Earth.
