Dictionary definition: Conservative - a person favoring free enterprise, private ownership, and socially traditional ideas
Fixed it: Conservative - a person favoring capitalistic oppression, enabling the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer; limiting government intervention (unless we think we should control it, i.e. reproductive rights and elections); and traditional ideology, (i.e. slavery, sexism, freedom of religion, as long as it's Christianity)
"Americans do not sufficiently grasp or empathize with the ordinary, even monotonous, challenges faced daily by Black women across the United States. Even on the best day, it’s uncomfortable, if not infuriating, to move through society as a Black woman. At work and even at home, we battle society’s alternating perceptions: Sometimes we are “angry” and other times we are completely invisible."
April Ryan, Black Women Will Save the World: An Anthem
Not gonna lie. I'm directing most of my ire to Clarence Thomas, who benefited from #AffirmaticeAction, wouldn't even be on the court without it, and STILL voted to eliminate it.
Today's mischief: I fully intend to use British terms in lieu of the American equivalent whenever I can. Please note: this is not intended to ridicule either usage, just having some fun with words! You're welcome to join in if you feel so inclined.
With zero authority I hereby issue a call for all your best jokes!
I spent the majority of yesterday enraged by topics like killer cops, mental illness in America, racism (always racism) and reproductive rights. I need to temporarily put that aside and have a good laugh.

Peniel E Joseph, The Third Reconstruction: America's Struggle for Racial Justice in the Twenty-First Century
I'm a strong believer in acting, not just talking. If you are as well, take note of these companies that are supporting legislators who are introducing and voting for anti-LGBTQ legislation and switch your loyalties/brands. Let them know actions have consequences.
I posted a few excerpts from One Person, No Vote by Carol Anderson and I'll probably post more in the next few days. But if you are interested in the alarming extent of voter suppression in the US, I highly recommend that you read the book. It is excellent! Professor Anderson describes instances of voter suppression -- from gerrymandering and illegal roll purges to closing polling places in select
"The devices the Republicans used are variations on a theme going back more than 150 years. They target the socioeconomic characteristics of a people (poverty, lack of mobility, illiteracy, etc.) and then soak the new laws in “racially neutral justifications—such as administrative efficiency” or “fiscal responsibility”—to cover the discriminatory intent."
