My father was a US Army "combat medic", but in the 40s for a Black man that meant sanitation (the removal of bodies and parts from the battlefield.) The troops were segregated when he joined; desegregation came years later.

He never talked about it when he got home from the war. He told my brothers that the military could be a good life, but only if they got a college degree and went in as an officer. He didn't want them to experience what he had.

And #Today my feed is filled with the blossoms fellow Mastodonians tooted in response to my humble request. ?

Humble request to Mastodonians far and wide. There are many toots of beautiful images of nature, wildlife, pets, etc. But I would love to see more flowers. Nothing cheers me more than scrolling to see a colorful single blossom or a field of wildflowers.
