@shi @aral can you recommend SBCs that are somewhat drop-in replacements for raspi? Half of the benefit of companies like this is just having more of an ecosystem than whatever AliExpress hands you when you encounter issues

@atomicpoet you're perceived as an admin of a 2000-person instance named after a major piece of social software with 16,000 followers, everything you do under that mantle reflects on and is distributed to all those people. Even if all you did was post photos of what beer you drank, this would be known as the place that does that, if you're an admin you're in a leadership role with responsibility. If your words spread that far, you have power. If you want to separate that out, then separate it.

@atomicpoet I feel this in my bones, but just be aware that avoiding all conflict is a great way to find yourself paired up with the worst people. A total lack of conflict very often means maintenance of the status quo and capitulation to whoever's more charming and powerful, which in an unjust world very often means siding with giant corporations and genocidal colonizers. Vulnerable people can't assume anyone supports them, it takes active advocacy to make that known.

@atomicpoet I hate conflict too, it makes me shake and hyperventilate, but I've also seen how my loved ones rely on me to actively take a stand alongside them in order to keep them safe. My love for them has to outweigh my fear of conflict, and I need to exercise that muscle often in order to keep it tuned.

@ayo @kev @pixelfed wonder if they'll get *less* lawsuit happy when they have a product that looks very similar to Pixelfed and they've patented a few core features of a federated social network to use as bludgeons against us.

@AnarchoNinaWrites absolutely, the history of America is essentially smugglers, slavers, capitalists, religious extremists, and criminals or sociopaths coming over here to try and make it rich (or at least avoid interacting with the society they left, or upon court order and threat of death for their crimes) so you've got a continent full of the worst misfits and guess what they go off and kill whoever they want, causing major problems for everyone else (and genocide)

@AnarchoNinaWrites for all the hand wringing about how libertarians just want to be minor feudal lords profiting off indentured servitude like The Governor from Walking Dead, that's basically how America was in some pockets especially toward the beginning

@freakazoid @vantablack the idea that someone would get as large as the big instances without asking for donations and mod help, just letting things schlep along until some undetermined payday or offramp, sends a shiver up my spine.

Then again my own server is just schlepping along, it just also doesn't allow signups...

@javerous @mikemathia @nicolasf also as we've seen a massive timesaving tool doesn't really mean that the same or less work gets done, or that tons of people are without jobs for decades, more like people get retrained to make companies even more money with the same labor (now plus tools) while getting paid less and having less security. (A knitter, versus a textile factory worker.)

So that's the real concern: devaluing.
